editthe biggest thing about cape breton fiddle is timing, and a good cape breton dancer will know if you have timing, this day in age everyone wants to rush through the tunes, and not playing them for what they are really worth, slow and strong is how i think of it, but i learned this from listening to old tapes and from an old teacher i had who knew all the old players, people like Dan Hughie MacEachern, Donald Angus Beaton, Winston Scotty Fiztgerald who was supposed to be known as one of the best, they should be the peoples influences today, they are tapes of Winston and so on. Drones and doubling brings out the strong feeling of cape breton fiddle and changing the tunes to an extent where only another fiddle would realize the change if he too played the tune, (triplets, cuts, and strong ornamentation but no so much on the cape breton composed tunes, more so on the tradional ones no one won't care about. some people take the tunes they compose seriously and don't want anyone else to toy with their tune.
