Tech Park Cabo Verde

I think the TechPark referenced in the Science and technology section has potential to be its own article, if anyone is interested in creating it. I created a red link for now, but if anyone feels it's not notable enough, feel free to revert. • Oppose. As one who has supported the successful proposal of Kiev → Kyiv and the as-yet-unsuccessful proposal of Odessa → Odesa, I am sympathetic to local requests for geographic name changes. However, each case must be considered on its own merits and, while the above-mentioned cases represent a change to native transliteration, rather than a name change, requests for English exonym changes such as Cape Verde → Cabo Verde, East Timor → Timor Leste or Ivory Coast → Côte d'Ivoire represent a change from the country's English-language exonym to the country's name in the former European colonial country's language, not the country's native language. RMs are the proper way to discuss a move, there was nothing wrong with that! But it's a good idea, before proposing anything, to be familiar with the applicable guidelines, the criteria that will be considered in deciding on an outcome, and to present a justification that take those into consideration. Switch to preferred name: Cabo Verde

The guideline applicable to country names is WP:COMMONNAME. We don't go by preference, we go by the name found to be the most commonly used in reliable sources in English. See the list of previous discussions on this subject at the top of this page. Usage may have changed in the 10 months since the last discussion, but anyone formally proposing a name change (see WP:Requested moves) ought to have done some research to make a case that the criteria for changing the name have been met. San Luzia reference in Administrative divisions

This article (but not the linked Administrative divisions of Cape Verde article) suggests that the municipality of São Vicente, Cape Verde comprises the islands of São Vicente and Santa Luzia, Cape Verde. The Administrative divisions of Cape Verde (see below the municipalities table) and Santa Luzia, Cape Verde articles suggest that Santa Luzia is a) uninhabited (which does not preclude belonging to São Vicente, Cape Verde) and b) not part of any municipality, but in the public domain of the state of Cape Verde (which does).

Therefore I suggest that the indication that the the municipality of São Vicente, Cape Verde includes Santa Luzia, Cape Verde be removed. Hayttom (talk) 20:41, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Someone has made two BIG mistakes:

First, it was merging the municipalities with islands (or municipalities with cities) just because there are some coincidental names. This is not how the things work here in Cabo Verde. Islands and municipalites are considered different things. An island is a geographical feature, a piece of land. A municipality is an administrative division (even if it has the same name as an island), it means that it is the piece of the territory which is “bossed” by so and so. Also, the municipalites must not be merged with cites. All the municipalites in Cabo Verde are way bigger than the cities they include.

Second, someone has changed the municipalites table. Living here in Cabo Verde, I know for sure that the Santa Luzia was not detached from the Municipality of São Vicente. The source referred there talks about a proposal, nothing else.

Could someone correct all of this, please?

Island and municipalities are different everywhere. They are covered together due to the extensive overlap in their topic. CMD (talk) 13:49, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
