Second debate section at bottom of page with improper citations

edit

Why is there a second "debate" section all the way at the bottom of the page with additional references? Also, none of the references in this additional section are cited properly.

Ohio Moratorium

edit

In the second graphic on this page, Ohio is marked as red (active death penalty state). It should instead be marked as blue (formal moratorium). Governor Mike DeWine has explicitly said that no executions will take place in Ohio until a new lethal injection protocol or execution method determined to be constitutionally acceptable by the courts is adopted by the state. To enforce this policy, he has repeatedly been rescheduling executions to later dates while the new protocol or method is developed. This constitutes a governor imposed moratorium.

Map needs to be updated.

Utah is shown as having had no executions in 10+ years. They executed someone today. Leoolkh (talk) 19:30, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Map inaccurate

edit

Why does it say the Death Penalty is actively used in South Dakota, Nebraska and Utah? They haven’t executed people this century. Also the governor of Arizona put a halt to all executions. 136.37.105.109 (talk) 17:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

According to the relevant Wikipedia articles, most of which are highly referenced with reliable sources, South Dakota has executed five people this century, Nebraska has executed one, and Utah has executed two, including one within the last week. See for example Taberon Honie. Dash77 (talk) 18:32, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I added this so that people would have a better understanding. I used Wikipedia pages as a source. Nebraska, South Dakota, and Utah have only executed one person in the last 10 years. South Dakota hasn’t executed anyone this decade and only has one prisoner with a death sentence. In 2015 the Nebraska legislature got a 2/3 majority to abolish the death penalty but in 2016 a referendum was held which is criticized to be confusing by people supporting the retain abolition side. The last execution in Nebraska was in 2018 and was the first since 1997. In In Utah a bill was passed in 2021 that made the death penalty only used for the most extreme cases of murder. In 2024 Utah executed its first inmate in 14 years which the Supreme Court of Utah halted because of his Fetal alcohol syndrome and brain trauma but then said it could be carried out. His case would be considered an extremely brutal murder. In 2013 the California Supreme Court said that until a new facility was built no executions could be carried. California has the largest death row population. In Tennessee executions were halted and their method is under review. Earbuds other state where the death penalty is legal but cannot be carried out is because their method is unconstitutional.] 136.37.105.109 (talk) 20:29, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
South Dakota has executed Charles Rhines in 2019. Nebraska has executed Carey Dean Moore in 2018. Utah has executed Taberon Honie in 2024. These three states have executed in the past 10 years, so it is correct for them to be shown in red on the map. The map should also be updated to show South Carolina in red, given that South Carolina has executed Freddie Eugene Owens in 2024. 82.78.48.252 (talk) 10:39, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
