Explanation of lost History
editDue to being merged with Shazam, a lot of this page was lost. -- Ipstenu (talk|contribs) 03:58, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
PLEASE Do not Merge
editPlease stop moving the Capt'n Marvel pages. I can see you have good intentions, but until the Trials of Shazam are over, we have no way of knowing what name Freddy will be using. In fact, there have been rumors that Freddy will be 'Shazam' so they can stop using the Marvel name in a DC comic! Nothign is confirmed, it's all Spec, so let's leave it be until we have confirmation in a comic. Advance copies of comics and even news articles are not considered reliable sources! They've pulled our legs too many times. Please come and discuss this here before you make any more moves. -- Ipstenu (talk|contribs) 03:58, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
- No matter what Freddy eventually calls himself, this article should still be titled "Captain Marvel, Jr." Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a fan page. So this article should reflect the entire history of the character, not just what's happening now. - Lex 06:40, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Superlex. Until The Trials of Shazam! is completed, the article should still be titled "Captain Marvel, Jr." Afterwards, the article could be retitled "Shazam (Freddy Freeman)" unless Freddy will prefer being called Captain Marvel instead. Considering what Marvel told Freddy in The Trials of Shazam #2, it may not happen. -- Hotredtiger316 09:56, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Which is why we're waiting till the series is over :) He'll probably go to Shazam (Freddy Freeman), though who knows what Billy will be called. -- Ipstenu (talk|contribs) 14:42, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Would that be the correct article to place this character under? Perhaps Freedy Freeman (comics) might satisfy all parties? Again, after the mini-series is resolved...preemptively doing so mid-stream will just cause a mess. Mister Fax 19:34, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ipstenu, as a friendly reminder, Billy Batson now calls himself simply Marvel as of Trials of Shazam #2. In issue #3 of Trials of Shazam, Rachel Zallman/Solomon even referred to Billy as Marvel when tatooing Freddy during the trial of wisdom; that should clear up any doubts as to Billy's new name. Also consider that the first Shazam, Jebediah of Canaan, renamed himself Shazam once he became the first keeper of the Rock of Eternity and the keeper of the magical elders' powers. Hotredtiger316 09:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Freddy's New Name is Shazam
editAccording to what Billy, as the newly christened wizard Marvel, told Freddy in Trials of Shazam! Issue #2, he specifically told Freddy, "You will be called Shazam!"
As of Trials of Shazam #6, concerns about Freddy being able or unable to say Shazam without triggering or deactivating his powers are dispelled after Marvel tells Freddy that calling upon his powers is now an act of will whether Freddy says his new name or not: and that this further signifies a potential new ability only exhibited so far by Marvel, the power to manipulate magic. All of this is thanks to the new rules within the Books of Magic that presumably come with the beginning of the Tenth Age.
Error describing the King Marvel drawing
edit(By Andre Macdonald (unregistered user) - This article includes a drawing of Captain Marvel Jnr. as King Marvel in which the author of the article says he appears as in the Alex Ross illustrated graphic novel called "Kingdom Come". I own Kingdom Come and looked over it again to make sure and there is absolutly no appearance by Captain Marvel Jnr. under any persona , including that of King Marvel. I'm new to commenting on Wikipedia, shall I delete the part of the drawings comment referring it to Kingdom Come?
- Read it again. "King Marvel", "Lady Marvel", and their child, "The Whiz", do indeed appear in several panels of Kingdom Come as members of Superman's reconstituted Justice League (they are plainly seen together in one of the scenes where the heroes are seated at tables preparing for a mission). Do not delete factual information. --FuriousFreddy 18:05, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Requested move
editThe character has gone by several name throughout his career, and is currently known as Shazam not Captain Marvel J. Given that, I believe it would be more appropriate for his page to be listed under his real name (which of course has never changed). Also, since other characters have been called Shazam, "Freddy Freeman" is a more appropriate title.
- Not the best idea. The most likely searches for this article would come from "Captain Marvel Jr.", with slight variations for punctuation. There is also the nagging fact that we are dealing with a topic that for 65+ years has been known as one thing. - J Greb (talk) 15:32, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- That point is valid but any searchs for "Captain Marvel Jr." will just be redirected to the new page, and despite the long history of the character being Captain Marvel Jr., the simple fact remains that he is no longer known as Captain Marvel Jr. and is unlikely to ever return to that name. - darknus823
- Sorry, but please read WP:COMMONNAMES. The up shot: title the articles with the most likely search unless it will cause confusion. "Captain Marvel Jr." is the most likely search term, so it is the article title. The project level guidelines (alter ego for multiple code names in this case) should only be used when the most likely search term is unclear (Dick Grayson where both "Robin" and "Nightwing" are equally likely) or can be applied to multiple articles (Captain Marvel (DC Comics) and Captain Marvel (Marvel Comics)). Neither case exists here. - J Greb (talk) 14:32, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Equally Shazam is picked up on the disambiguation page. This is a recent name change and I agree with all J Greb's points - this should remain here for the time being. (Emperor (talk) 15:17, 6 April 2008 (UTC))
- The page would benifit from a face lift on the intro to include the multiple names. I updated briefly, but it could use some friendly eyes more familiar with the material. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 19:14, 6 April 2008 (UTC).
- Agree with OP completely. Rename per similar situations, such as "Stephanie Brown" ("primarily" known as Spoiler). In that case, moving her name was a recurring fight based on the fact that she had only "temporarily" taken on a different identity. Also, this character is far too low radar--despite everything--for us to be worried about "searches". I guarantee that those who are looking for Freddy will find him(, even if they use the old name). I give this search for "Spoiler (comics)" on Google as proof. Change the name and fix the intro. Anything else comes off looking dated at best and biased at worst. - Ace, that's an "orange and limes" comparison - similar, but not really close. And using a search for another character to justify moving this article means nil. - J Greb (talk) 21:04, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

The whole Elvis thing
editHate to be a dick, guys, but I'm just not buying this whole theory about Elvis being a big CM3 fan. I mean, all the "sources" tend to do is offer conjecture (and very little solid evidence). Here's a site I found, Oz and Ends, which argues that the whole thing is probably bunk. So, considering the mission statement of the 'Pedia--we do still follow that, right?--is to be a well founded encyclopedia, I gotta think this little bit just doesn't fit (our criteria).
