Shareholder
editPRISA is not Caracol TV main shareholder. The Spanish company does own Caracol Radio, which is a different company. Mr. Santo Domingo, through Valores Bavaria (today Valorem), still controlls Caracol Televisión (Santo Domingo did sell Caracol Radio to PRISA). I concur. Also, the Cisneros group (the Venezuelan media conglomerate that also has interests in Univision, Venevision, and the Claxson Interatctive Group) is a partial owner of Caracol TV. http://cjr.org/tools/owners/cisneros.asp Jlm275 08:47, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
History section copypaste
editSomeone copied and mistranslated the history section from http://caracoltv.com/quienes.asp . The same happened in the Spanish version of the article, but it was corrected. --Julián Ortega - drop me a message 03:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

History Section Chronology Doesn't Make Sense
editAs it is now, the History section chronology is contradictory. I would correct it myself, but I don't know enough about the facts. I think it could be the result of a mistranslation. Here's what it says:
"Caracol Televisión started in 1954 when Organización de Radiodifusora Caracol offered to afford national television costs, then state-run, through commercial spots. At that time its board (Fernando Londoño Henao, Cayetano Betancourt, Carlos Sanz de Santamaría, Pedro Navas, and Germán Montoya) started to suggest the possibility of establishing the first television station in Colombia. One year later that idea was accepted and they decided to share the rights with Radiodifusora Nacional, the state-run company operating the Televisora Nacional, the only television station in Colombia at the time, creating TVC (Televisión Comercial Ltda.), a company which lasted two years."
So what was the situation in 1954? If Televisora Nacional was broadcasting at the time, then a TV station started by Caracol Radio would not be the "first television station in Colombia". If Televisora Nacional was NOT broadcasting then they would probably not be "the only television station in Colombia". I say "probably" because the sentence starts with "One year later..." (i.e., 1955), so it could be true if Televisora Nacional started broadcasting after the idea for commercial broadcasting was proposed by Caracol Radio, but before 1955. But that idea contradicts the language in the first sentence which says "... offered to afford national television costs, then state run... (emphasis added). If this is true, then Televisora Nacional was broadcasting in 1954 before Caracol Radio proposed commercial broadcasting. So what's the truth?Darkstar8799 (talk) 13:52, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry for the huge delay. It's indeed a mistranslation. Televisora Nacional was the only TV channel in Colombia since 1954 until 1966. Caracol TV, for all practical purposes a programadora since the late 1950s until the late 1990s, would become a TV channel in 1998.--Julián Ortega - drop me a message 00:14, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
