Missing definition - what is carb loading?

edit

The opening paragraph is unclear in one major way: It never says exactly what carb loading is. Just that it's a "strategy", but not what it actualyl entails. "Many endurance athletes prefer foods with low glycemic indices for carbo-loading" gives some indication that it's about eating food with low glycemic index, but it's way too vague. --185.17.13.81 (talk) 08:24, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Carb loading used in healthcare

edit

I don't think that journal article can be used to support the statement "Carbohydrate loading is also used in healthcare to optimize the condition of patients prior to colorectal surgery". The study was very small, and some of the results were not statistically significant. Furthermore, the results don't necessarily mean that the effect was due to carb loading. Although we do know that making the gut work and providing nutrition make for a better surgery outcome, its orthogonal to the point of this page, which is about glycogen availability in muscle, blood, and liver. I think this sentence should be removed. Iglam (talk) 15:28, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Reference 1 is broken

Reference 1 is broken, and takes you to a 'cannot find URL' page with the website http://www.teamintraining.org

- Reference 1 is to an academic text from a peer-reviewed journal. The DOI number is standard academic citation. Ride the Hurricane (talk) 17:30, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Useless?

edit

I added "This can only be done a couple times a year, such as for events, otherwise the body begins to adapt making carbo-loading useless." on 12/13/2008. I'm sure USELESS is not accurate, but do not have to knowledge or time now to find the most accurate information. i think it's something about getting fatter instead. i got this information from my trainer whose expertise I trust, he researches lots of this stuff for a long time so I'm sure this can be cited. However I'm busy and do not intend to come back. I hope another Wikipedian will pick up this and refine it. Thanks. If you do by the way, let me know on my talk page, I would really appreciate it! "I'm sure this can be cited" -- you are (or were) sure of something that is false. Please review WP policy on reliable sources. -- 98.108.223.197 (talk) 21:20, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
