translation
editNote that Ceredigion is not technically a Welsh translation of Cardiganshire.
Prior to 1974 it was know as Sir Aberteifi in Welsh. Abertfi being the correct name for the town as used by it's Welsh speaking inhabitants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.153.1.220 (talk • contribs) 21:33, 31 May 2004
- Although Cardigan is an anglicization of Ceredigion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cap (talk • contribs) 14:50, 2 September 2004
- This is not strictly true. By the late 1960s, Cardiganshire County Council was using the forms Sir Geredigion and Cyngor Sir Geredigion, which they continued to use until they were abolished in 1974. This was also the form that the county boundary signs displayed. The town of Cardigan continued to be known, in Welsh, as Aberteifi. Skinsmoke (talk) 03:22, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
- The editors above you are, strictly speaking, both exactly true. Your confusion seems to arise in the translations back into Welsh from the English forms based on English legal divisions long postdating the medieval fiefs around Ceredigion. — LlywelynII 14:41, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
