Disagreement with "Unencyclopedic" and "Newsrelease" Tags

edit

On 14 October 2008, the user at IP address 208.81.184.4 added "Unencyclopedic" ("This article... may contain material not appropriate for an encyclopedia") and "Newsrelease" ("This article... reads like a news release, or is otherwise written in an overly promotional tone") tags to the article. I disagree with those tags for the following reasons:

  • As discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance in August 2008, "DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance is a well-established and widely recognized trade association... [and] has been cited extensively in the trade and popular press over the past decade." Therefore, it meets Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) criteria.
  • My edits, which are not yet complete, are intended to make the article meet Wikipedia:Neutral point of view criteria. Thus far I have added the following sentences (with refs) that are questioning or critical of the organization and therefore NOT characteristic of an organization's news releases:
    • "In 2008, DMAA reported that it paid $60,000 in lobbying expenses to Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal."
    • "The Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act passed later that year was described as a 'major victory'... in that the law 'authoriz[ed] payment for services provided by its [i.e., DMAA's] members to people with chronic illnesses'."
    • "The usefulness of the first volume was questioned because the guidelines were voluntary in nature and 'equivocate[d] on a number of key issues, preventing true standardization even if they were adopted industrywide'."

After I'm done editing (should be a few days from now), I ask someone else to please look at the article and (if you agree with my arguments) delete the "Unencyclopedic" and "Newsrelease" tags. Thanks. AppForCalPERSMCII (talk) 05:17, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
