editOne of my sources for this article was [1] (free use with attribution; see [2], but my translation is so rough that it amounts to a rewrite anyway). However, I'm unsure about the "minister to the United States" part: other sources also have this phrase, and the Spanish site calls it a "ministro Plenipotenciario". What is this? Would "ambassador" be an adequate designation? He seems to have lived in New York since he occupied that post... Lupo 15:29, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Ok, got it. According to MW Online, a "minister plenipotentiary" is "diplomatic agent ranking below an ambassador but possessing full power and authority". Lupo 08:28, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)
A Diplomatic Title
editThe typical title given to an Argentine diplomat with the rank of Ambassador who is detailed abroad is embajador extraordinario y plenipotenciario. Alvear was Argentina's ambassador to the USA from 1838 to his death in 1852.
