On 'Beautiful Women' and Other Details of Personal Life

edit

We should try to keep this section objective and, frankly, I'm wary of keeping it at all. None of the sources are linked. The two included sources are social directories from 1939 and 1950 that cannot be expected to prove whether he recognized his illegitimate children or whether his wife is still politically active. The more contentious comments in the section (quoted below) continue to be restored to the article after they've been edited out. If you'd like to restore any of this content in the future, please justify it here. I've bolded the more contentious parts.

As was expected for a person of his stature in those times [18], [19] Prio loved a number of very beautiful women. He married first to Gina Karel and they had one daughter, Rocio Guadalupe Prio-Socarras-Karell. He then married María Antonieta Tarrero de Prío in Miami, and they had two daughters, Maria Antonetta Prio-Tarrero, (b. 1945 in Cuba) Maria Elena Prio-Tarrero, (b. 1948 in Cuba). He also had two "recognized" children who proudly bear their father's name with his former mistress Celia Touzet, who gave him two children, Carlos Prio-Touzet and Rodolfo Prio-Touzet.

He spent his final years as a developer and businessman in Miami. Prio committed suicide by gunshot in 1977. He died a pauper. He is buried at Woodlawn Park North Cemetery and Mausoleum in Miami, Florida.

His second wife, María Tarrero, continues Prio's political work [25]. Carlos Prio, as had the first President in Arms of Cuba Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, kept mistresses e.g. the beautiful and talented Celia Touzet. His oldest son , Carlos Prio-Touzet (b. 1955 in Havana) , is an architect of some prominence in Miami.

My objections: As mentioned above, the information is not sourced. There are broad generalizations a la, "as was expected for a person of his stature" (really-- would we say that in an article about Bill Clinton?). The fact that his sons "proudly bear their father's name" is out of the scope of the article. We also have "the beautiful and talented" used to describe someone without any attribution. In general, with so many errors and so few references, I'm inclined to remove all references to his children, since they don't add anything to an understanding of his role in history.

Suicide and Fidel Castro

edit

The article forgets the fact that this mand gave money to Fidel Castro. The article writes:"He spent his final years as a developer and businessman in Miami. Prío committed suicide by gunshot in 1977. He is buried at Woodlawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum".Yes, he was a businessman, but he was also in exile.Perhaps, Socarrás' suicide came from the fact he had regrets because of he gave support to the cuban revolution. When he took power, Fidel Castro betrayed Socarras forever.Agre22 (talk) 11:20, 2 December 2008 (UTC)agre22Reply
