Alternate lyrics?

Rondstadt's version includes an alternate lyric that has Ronstadt pawning her "Smith & Wesson" as opposed to Zevon's "Smith Corona":

The recording I've found of McLaughlin's version says "Smith & Wesson", so it seems like Zevon's version - while more well known - might be the alternate lyrics, and Rondstadt's are closer to the original. Analysis

I moved this from the lead to the talk page ..."The song is ostensibly about a heroin addicted writer in love with a Mexican girl, but it might be more accurate to say that it is about Los Angeles than about the character in question."
