Promotional content

edit

This reads too much like an extract from a press release.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 06:09, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I tried to change the text to make it more balanced but the origin editor has reverted me twice. Apart from the style and layout problems the reverted text is far to promotional. This is an encyclopedia not a company website. Such comments as No products are yet available for purchase, but escrow preorders are accepted.is not acceptable. The splitting of the products to emphasis they are not for sale is not encyclopedic. Business Model and Employment are not needed they are not notable. I will give some time for User:TGCP to explain why these are encyclopedic before changing them back again. Thank you. MilborneOne (talk) 16:00, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. Original article was written in freehand, not quoting press releases. Only verifiable facts are present in the long version, including unpleasant facts like crashes and (?) small company size. Unsalable one-off articles are not actual products, and should be marked as such. I can see now that "Preorders" can be misunderstood for promotion, and is now deleted. Business Model and Employment are important in showing the company size and scope - this is not Boeing, and aircraft revolutions will not happen fast. Btw I have no affiliation with any aviation company. It would have been good to link to the crash on Youtube, but Wikibot seems to disallow it. Thank you. I have run though the article, formatted refs, copy-edited and removed some of the promo language. Even so the article really relies on a conglomeration of press releases for its content and some actual third party refs are needed to move it beyond mere corpspam. Let me see what I can find on AvWeb for sources.- Ahunt (talk) 16:50, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
As I suspected AvWeb has a wealth of articles on the company. - Ahunt (talk) 16:59, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Misleading article

edit

As the article is presently, the company can be mistaken for having production and salable products on the shelves. This is not (yet?) the case, as http://www.cartercopters.com/faq-general.html#question-p1 shows. This should be rectified by clarifying the business model, although it is subject to change for the time being. The main products of the company are not physical, but consists of intellectual property in the form of patents, marketable by license agreements. Pictures and company logo seem to be freely redistributable on http://www.cartercopters.com/press_release_index.html TGCP (talk) 23:56, 20 December 2009 (UTC)TGCPReply

I agree it is worth explaining that aspect. I have added some text and your ref to the lead, see what you think. - Ahunt (talk) 01:33, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Similarity to Fairey Rotodyne and Gyrodyne of the 1950s

edit

As soon as I saw a video promoting this project, I was reminded of the Fairey Aviation autogyros from the 1950s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairey_FB-1_Gyrodyne http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairey_Rotodyne — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fncurtis (talkcontribs) 19:02, 13 March 2011 (UTC) Further checking the Carter website shows that they acknowledge the Fairey aircraft: http://www.cartercopters.com/mu-1.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fncurtis (talkcontribs) 19:17, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, and another discussion is how to divide text common to all slowed rotors (Fairey, Sikorsky X2, Eurocopter X3, others) and how to divide text common to all Carter aircraft. This has also been discussed at Talk:CarterCopter, but perhaps text is still too thin to warrant spawning/divisioning. TGCP (talk) 21:06, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
It took only 3 years, but now there is an article on Slowed rotors. Separately, This may expand on Carter UAVs. TGCP (talk) 22:04, 31 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Hidden" video?

edit

I have removed a "hidden" video from the article. Although it comes from the official channel, it is marked as "Hidden" after play, and suggests "consideration" in sharing the video. Until a discussion says the video should be included, I have opted to heed the stamp and not show the link here. TGCP (talk) 21:42, 18 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
