Yates' birthday and other personal data
editA date of birth , and some other interesting biographic data for Alan Geoffrey Yates , can be found here , including references to newspaper articles (obituaries ?) . That page looks like a good addition to the "external links" list too .
If Wikipedia isn't going to have a separate page for Yates , which seems likely , why not put some of his biographic data (birth and death dates , wife's & parent's names , WW-II Royal Navy service, 1942-47, etc) in a section titled "personal life" or something like that ?
Rather than an actual picture of Yates , a reader might find it more informative to see one of the less "salacious" Carter Brown book covers instead , in the little "key details" box ? The top image here , featuring a woman wearing a yellow dress and long gloves , illustrates what I have in mind (the authors name at the top , the word "murder" , and the shape of a "pretty woman" are all still clearly visible when the image is reduced to 200x300 pixels)
The key biographic details in the box could be
birth-name : Alan Geoffrey Yates pen-names : Carter Brown , Peter Carter-Brown , Tod Conway , Paul Valdez born : 01 August 1923 ; Ilford, Essex, England died : 05 May 1985 ; Australia
Could wikipedia ask the publisher for the right to use that book cover (or another one - there are many of them online) to "memorialize" Carter Brown (or possibly to increase sales or appreciation of his work !?) . It won't be easy ... I imagine the artist (or his estate) would have to release the image ... but they could get mentioned in the box , too .
