On 8 March 2023, it was proposed that this article be moved to Surfskating. The result of the discussion was not moved. |
Requested move 8 March 2023
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. Consensus not to move, as while the topic might not be notable, moving the article and changing the topic of the article is not the correct way to to address that (closed by non-admin page mover) BilledMammal (talk) 23:31, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Carveboarding → Surfskating – The page was WP:PROD'd by Beehiel with the rationale "Carveboarding refers to a specific product—a Carveboard—which is no longer in production. This article should be replaced by surfskating, as the two are being confused by Wikipedia." I removed the PROD as if this is true, this page should be moved to Surfskating and have the references to carveboarding largely replaced by surfskating. - It should really be deleted. Carveboarding does not even exist anymore, because Carveboards no longer exist. I believe the Carveboarding article was created by the founders of Carveboard to promote their product. Beehiel (talk) 16:33, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Also, if you keep the Carveboarding article, then it should not be combined with the Surfskating article. They need to be separate articles. Reason being, a Carveboard does not meet the definition of a surfskate, as defined in my current draft: "A surfskate system is distinguished from a traditional skateboard system by the utilization of two different trucks, front and back, with specific functions and geometries that, together, yield thrust, just like a surfboard." On a Carveboard, the front and rear trucks are the same. While they allow riders to lean side to side more radically than traditional skateboard or longboard trucks, they do not generate thrust in the same way that a surfskate system does, as defined above.
- So again, we either need to just delete the Carveboarding article, since it no longer exists, or if that article remains, it should NOT be combined with the Surfskating article, and those should remain separate. They are not the same thing. Beehiel (talk) 19:20, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, I forgot to include this part of the definition of a surfskate system: "On a surfskate system, the front truck has a rotation arm that allows a normal truck to turn on an additional vertical axis, parallel to the deck. The rear truck acts as a pivot point that the board rotates around, performing a similar function as the back fins on a surfboard."
- Carveboards are built with the same trucks on front and rear, so they do not meet the definition of a surfskate. Beehiel (talk) 19:22, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: Being a discontinued/defunct product is not really a valid reason for deletion of an article – see WP:DEFUNCTS. The deletion question is just whether Carveboarding is/was sufficiently notable or not and whether we have enough (adequately sourced) information to provide about it – see WP:DELETE and WP:GNG. If notable, it could either be discussed as a minor item in an article about a different topic or in a separate article of its own. For example, it could be discussed in an article about variations of skateboarding or in an article about surfskating (if such an article existed and the topics are somewhat similar). I suggest not to rename it as a way of deleting it. — BarrelProof (talk) 23:45, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- I'm fine with either way, as long as carveboarding and surfskating are not combined, as that is not technically accurate. 96.60.219.53 (talk) 23:55, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
