Not a copyvio, according to its first author

edit

The first draft of the article, as added to Wikipedia this morning, stated that it was based on a work published in the 1990s. That would make it a copyvio unless the writer of the article and the writer of the book were one and the same. It finally turned out, according to the author — see their Talk page — that the initial basis of fact was indeed that printed work, but the writing is original to Gaj. Therefore, no copyvio. I have added lots of links. I have also asked the original author to add references to verify the information. --Bduke 07:51, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edit war re developers

edit

It is not a question that facts should not be deleted. I presume the developers are "Asian" but it has never been sourced. Also is it important that they are "Asian"? I would have thought that the fact that they are local developers is the important point. Please stop reverting and discuss the issue here. --Bduke 07:46, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually there is no edit war. The Thandi brothers are known to the people of Huddersfield, purely for their involvement with the Pub. It is factual is that they are Asian, unfortunately you would be unable to have seen their photographs in the local media. However they are not developers in the sense of being property developers. They are simply the owners of a pub who attempted to use backdoor methods to demolish an extremely popular local landmark pub, first built in 1812, almost 200 years old, and rebuild it to a size and extent that was specifically prohibited in the building permission issued. The set of images at the bottom of the article shows the seriousness of the issue.

The fact the the Town Council had to take legal action against them for their activities is sourced here:- [:http://ichuddersfield.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100localnews/tm_method=full%26objectid=17080743%26siteid=50060-name_page.html]

The activities leading up to the action is sourced here:- [:http://ichuddersfield.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100localnews/tm_method=full%26objectid=15170728%26siteid=50060-name_page.html]

I have no doubt that this is an important issue, but why is it important to state that they are "Asian". In one sense they are as Yorkshire as I am, even though I live in Australia, or presumably you are. It is what they did that is important not that they look Asian. The edit war is that "Asian" keeps getting added and then deleted. There really is not need for it. I'm sure most people recognise Thandi as an Asian name. Let it go. Concentrate on the issue. --Bduke 10:29, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no reason to use the word Asian here to denote the brothers, unless it is to say that part of the route of the problem in the community was resistence to perceived outsiders?? This comment was by User:80.192.148.26.

I agree, and that argument is not made. I have therefore removed the word "Asian". I hope you will both accept my mediation in this matter. --Bduke 00:59, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
