Transfer from the Kaulon article
editIn transferring the already existing info from the Kaulon article, I've made the following changes:
- I did not describe Caulonia as a colony but as a city in the introductory paragraph. Every ancient Greek city in Magna Graecia (which is also wikilinked in the introductory paragraph) was a colony, so that is obvious. The fact that it is a colony is made sufficiently clear in the "History" section though.
- The source for the discovery of the large mosaic says it was discovered at the end of September 2012, not on the 23rd of July in 2013. It also says that the mosaic was 25 square meters instead of 35.
- I transferred only one source (the longest and most detailed article) for the discovery of the large mosaic.
- I did not transfer the "See also" section because it repeated links already present in the article itself, which is to be avoided according to WP:SEEALSO.
- I made no mention of Punta Stilo, Cocintum or Cocinto as it is all terribly confusing. At the moment Punta Stilo simply redirects to Calabria, and this text from a dictionary makes it evident that the names lack clarity. Even after studying the subject for several hours I don't know what geographical features the names represent. There is no promontory at Monasterace at this time and there probably never was. Just telling the reader that the ruins are located near Monasterace and that Stilida was located near (or developed into?) Stilo is adequate.
However, some things still need to be improved (of course the article also needs to be expanded, but that's a different matter):
- The second paragraph of the "Archaeology" section probably needs some more refinement. I copied it from the Kaulon article as-is, but while it would be useful to describe the surroundings of the archaeological site, the exact names of the site "Saggio SAS II" and "San Marco nord-est" are probably of little interest to the reader and not relevant.
- From the Caulonia article I understand that Paolo Orsi already proved that the ancient city was not located in Castelvetere's territory, before the mentioned excavations of 1911–1913. Do we have a source for this?
- Do we have a source for more info on Orsi's excavations?
- The foundation of Stilida (modern Stilo), do we have a good source for more info on that?
- We still need a disambiguation page for "Caulonia", assuming there is no main subject. I will read WP:DISAMBIG carefully and then act.

Name of the city
editI've noticed that Italian sources more often use the spelling with a "K", either "Kaulonia or "Kaulon". But the most recent Italian scientific sources apparently prefer "Caulonia", which is also the most frequently used spelling in English. Therefore I've just changed the first sentence slightly. --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 10:14, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
