I’ve today heard a story from a man who worked with an ex- German soldier who fought in Stalingrad. The soldier apparently spoke about the Russian Cavalry, saying how they were fearful of them as they would come out of nowhere and be right on top of their position. Quite specifically he had described how Russian cavalrymen used to wrap material around the horses hooves to silence their approach. Just wondering if anyone knows of any documented history of this practice?
