DVD Sales
editHere's a retarded question but I just have to ask it, so please be patient with me. I love this show, I'm actually an african-american but I don't see the show as racist at all. Seeing as how it is currently unaired on american TV, I was wondering If there are any DVD's of it on sale out there, or If there are going to be?
I would really apreciate an answer, thanks. - Anonymous "Sape" ;D —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.51.150.90 (talk) 22:06, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- that isnt a retarded question. no i dont think there are any dvds out there or planned as of yet. the havent even premeired 7 of the episodes on tv yet. i dont think people thought it was racist, it wasnt trying to be. the show was meant to be a satire of our politically correct society while commenting on our preconceived notions of races and cultures. Cancellation Correlation with ABC Website
editRemoving paragraph (see below) from the intro of this article, because there is no reliable source to reference showing that the schedule for updating the full episodes on ABC's webpage is in any way an indicator of a show's cancellation. That being said, I have seen this show and it probably is cancelled, but we need verifiability.
"Although the latest episode was scheduled to be aired on October 30 —and then transferred onto ABC’s website the day after—, ABC has yet to add the corresponding episode to its full-episode internet launcher, so it is quite possible that the show may have been canceled." Dr. Moniker 08:11, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the ABC website has several episodes listed for the next few weeks. The October 30th, episode was pre-empted for a Halloween show. Hardly evidence of a cancellation. Rabidwolfe 20:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Also - I'm getting tired of the constant edits done to make the show look as bad as possible. You don't like it - I get it. But I'm going to request a block on editing if this keeps up. Rabidwolfe 20:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- According to the ABC website, Cavemen will return on Feb 13th, 2008. I am changing the intro paragraph to reflect this. Redrok84 (talk) 03:16, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- I checked the ABC website and could not find any mention of the show returning. ABC's "Cavemen" website said the "next scheduled episode TBD". [1] Q0 (talk) 06:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- Wow that sucks, I just went back to the exact same place where it said the next episode was scheduled for Feb 13th and now it says TBD. Too bad! Redrok84 (talk) 18:58, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Leak?
editHaven't seen it personally just yet, but I've heard from people I consider reliable that the pilot episode has been leaked on torrent...any information about that out there?
- I saw the pilot weeks ago. It's out there. --I'm here for the words 03:38, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Only on ABC will you see this. -Yancyfry
Nothing else works on ABC, not even Lost anymore, not even Disney, they've lost it all Why not cavemen Therubicon 13:31, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thats becuase your not a true Lost fan ;) --Iron Chef 16:38, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Does anyone know if there's going to be a lot of product placement for GEICO?
- There is no product placement at least in the first episode. I'm here for the words 19:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Traveler is where it's at man. Is anyone going to watch this? I might.
I am! --Iron Chef 00:17, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Setting
editFirst set in Atlanta, then writer's first viewing of the pilot noted it was set in Norfolk, and now ABC reconfirmed Atlanta (change to the pilot?) See: [2] AUTiger » talk 19:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- If it was set in Norfolk, believe me, WVEC (the ABC station in Hampton Roads would have launched a promotional spree the likes of which I've never seen. WAVY 10 22:37, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Is this real?
editPlease let this be just a viral marketing hoax...this has to be the least intelligent concept for a sitcom I've ever seen. PhilShady 03:16, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yup, it's real. At least the proposal and development are. Whether it will actually make it as a successful series, we'll see when it hits the air. --Pilotboi / talk / contribs 04:29, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

First TV show spinoff from commercial?
editThis has to be the first television series spinoff based on a marketing commercial premise, right? Does anyone know for sure? --Thiseye 03:57, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

editIs this article a little "in the same month"-heavy? Steven 22:40, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Attempt at joke?
editI don't get the joke about keeping your "XXnis in your genus" as both cavemen (homo neanthendals) and humans (homo sapiens) are in the homo genus. I'm really puzzled by this as network TV is usually correct about animal taxomonies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.231.57.15 (talk) 02:40, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
What's worse is that they refer to themselves as Cro-Magnons which would imply that they are, indeed, Anatomically Modern Humans... So they are not only the same genus as "Sapes," but the same species as well. If the writing wasn't already bad enough, this alone would have ruined the series for me. 143.127.131.4 16:33, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hope someone lost their job on that one! 138.69.160.1 16:08, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
I think your paying WAY to much attention to the show...--71.159.61.218 21:39, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Get a hold of your lives... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.24.81.103 (talk) 07:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Gosh, you're right - I'm sorry! I'm a former archaeologist, but how dare I let my silly little education affect my tv-watching! I'll be sure to dumb down next time I turn on the boob tube! ;) Please forgive me, but at least cut me some slack by understanding my plight: noticing blatant inaccuracies is not the same as paying too much attention. When you've made these facts your livelihood, it's hard not to notice them being screwed up. :) 143.127.131.4 21:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I would say you are right, User:143.127.131.4, but maybe not in the way you thought you were right. One of the heavy underlying issues of the show is race relations, and the observation that some people in some cultures will go out of their way to identify with what they perceive to be "keeping it real." However, as a scientist you will probably recognize the fFact that "race" is an invented concept. These cavemen are struggling to fFind their own sense of culture, but in doing so they are generally making up their own cultural constructs where there really needn't be any. As you observe, neanderthals and sapiens are all part of the same genus, and cro-magnons are entirely human. So there is actually nothing at all different about the cavemen, except fFor these invented social constructs. So we get this show where This_Group tries to do one thing, and That_Group tries to do another, and hilarity ensues.
- It's kind of a dopey show which will be lucky if it makes it through the fFirst season, but it does have some fFairly cerebral levels, if you look a bit deeper. Think of it this way: It's a show about a bunch of guys who claim to be entirely different, but are actually just normal dudes. So what are these dudes really trying to accomplish? What do they accomplish instead?
- Andy: "This place is awesome!" - Nick: (disgusted) "Yeah, if you like poseurs." (quickly aside) "I'll have a tall mocha-chino-latte please?"
^ Hell yeah! Took the words right out of my mouth!
- Andy:"Oh, I'll have a donut and some coffee." - Waitress: (Looks confused) ::Nick: (sigh) "He wants an Americano and a Biscotti." --Iron Chef 03:38, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Third Paragraph
edit"It looks like the Cavemen may be headed for extinction."
Properly sourced, but not may not be exactly neutral, as it came from a critic in an opinion article. Does anyone one if it's actually true? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.62.227.73 (talk) 00:22, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- I for one DON'T anyone one.--SidiLemine 10:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Plot?
editAfter reading the article I still don't know what the show is about, except for the "cavemen in modern times" part I read on the page for the GEICO Cavemen adds. I'd like to see the general idea and plot at least somewhat explained. MrEvers 04:51, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
NPOV issues
editI'm no wikipedia expert but I had to edit the following out as it appears to be someone's biased opinion and not fact (I apologize if I violated SOP here):
"Mostly, however, critics have found this show to be ignorant and uninspired. The show will most likely not make it to another season as ratings continue to increasingly fall with each weekly episode. It has proven to be a mistake in trying to transfer a 30 second commerical to an all out series."67.80.94.230 02:27, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- No, that's a good edit. That definitely was an opinion. It needed to go. Rabidwolfe 13:41, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Racism in the show?
editOn another note, there seems to be a contingent of anonymous IP address attempting to add unsourced and irrelevant information in order to paint the series as racist. I could see such info being put in a "controversies" section - IF properly referenced (this means serious sources, not some random person's blog comments). Rabidwolfe 00:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hoponpop69 seems to have decided to wade into the fray, but his edits used facts to imply speculation about the motives of the show's creators. Unless we have actual statements from the show's creators on why the setting was changed, to bring up each city's racial history and demographics is irrelevant. Doing so indicated original research. Use it an academic paper for your "Race and TV in America" class - but it's out of place in Wikipedia. People need to stop grinding their axes in an attempt to prove this is a racist show. I would like to request some additional discussion on this page before we have any more edits about what a lame and racist show this is. Rabidwolfe 00:44, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
All I was trying to do was bring out the fact that the pilot created controversey because it was deemed as racist. I think that definitely warranted a mention.Hoponpop69 00:57, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think it warranted a mention. The stuff about the demographics of Atlanta vs. San Diego just seemed out of place, is all. At least you sourced your addition - earlier attempts to add that info in were unsourced and sounded like people who just hated the show. (Honestly, I'm not too fond of the show myself.) Rabidwolfe 01:12, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- The commercials are racist. Think about it. So easy a * could do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.67.35.97 (talk) 15:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Infobox
editOn Hiatus
editThere seems to be a persistent effort by certain editors to keep adding "On Hiatus" to the infobox value for Original run. I am aware of no specific Wikipedia rules or guidelines governing this, but it appears that the standard approach is to have the value set to "Present". I can cite several (current) examples of shows on hiatus that are described in this way (Battlestar Galactica (2004 TV series), Bionic Woman (2007 TV series), Bones (TV series), House (TV series)). I am unable to change the value back to "Present" because that would make me in violation of WP:3RR. What do other editors think? -- Scjessey 16:22, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Australian TV
editIt does seem that all 13 pilot episodes of the cavemen tv series were aired in australia. I did manage to see a tv listing for it. I had read some postings confirming that people were ablle to see the unaired episodes in Australia. I was not able to make contact with anyone in australia.
With a little luck maybe someone (you?) can do more research and come up with recordings of the episodes that remain unaired in the USA and get them posted into the bit torrent world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wennykelly1 (talk • contribs) 18:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
