Cederberg or Cedarberg

edit

The spelling is now generally accepted as Cederberg, not Cedarberg. This is a combination of the English spelling and the Afrikaans spelling 'Sederberg'. Zaian 11:57, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ironically, that is how the current Dutch spelling would be :-) 88.159.64.210 (talk) 18:44, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Clanwilliam Cedar or Clanwilliam Cypress

edit

The tree is generally known as the Clanwilliam Cedar, even though botanically it should be called a cypress. Which should be used on this page? I believe that the common name should be used in the article, with a short explanation of the technically correct name. Zaian 16:14, 8 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

In Dutch "Ceder" is used for the whole family. Cypresses is reserved for the Mediterranian variants. It's possible that the early Dutch settlers weren't even aware of those. 88.159.64.210 (talk) 18:46, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Cederberg Mountains

edit

Is the Cederberg part of the Cederberg Mountains or vice versa? Or are they one and the same? --Jwinius 22:28, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cederberg is directly translated as "Cedar Mountains", thus calling it Cederberg Mountains is an unneccesary repetition. However the name Cederberg, which originally was only used for the mountain range now also is the name of a district municipality, which incorporates the plains to the west of the range, which are not part of the mountain range per se. Topic of article is confused.

edit

Is this about the 100km long Cederberg mountain range, or is this about the ~65,000 hectare Cederberg Wilderness Area? There should be two articles. Leo Breman (talk) 16:51, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
