I'm from Europe and centerpin fishing was the most popular in the city that I am from (Banjaluka). Strangelly only the people from Banjaluka know about it to this day. My father used it more than 40 years ago and now I use it living in the states. I still use the "European" reel, which is a bit different. (Image attached below). It does not have a drag system at all, it is all done by "hands and fingers", I do realize it sounds primitive but its the most realistic fishing that I have done. Maybe this will give a bit of history to the topic.
