The result of the move request was: Move to Central Election Commission (Taiwan). Cúchullain t/c 15:41, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Central Election Commission of the Republic of ChinaCentral Election Commission of Taiwan – It's not parenthetical disambiguation; natural disambiguation is used instead. Republic of China government resides in Taiwan, and Taiwan is a de facto homeland to the unrecognized sovereign state. But that shouldn't stop proposing a change on the title. George Ho (talk) 16:29, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. Yet another baseless move request. Taiwan is not the Republic of China, rather Taiwan is part of the Republic. The Commission has jurisdiction over the entire Republic, and naming it of Taiwan is inaccurate. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 17:02, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose – Taiwan is not synonymous with the Republic of China. Whilst the common name of the country is Taiwan, the state structure itself is "Republic of China", and hence this commission does not claim to be an election of commission of "Taiwan", but of the RoC. Articles referring to the state structure of the state cannot use "Taiwan", as this is misleading, regardless of the common name of the country. That's not to mention that "Taiwan" is only one part of the territory under the RoC's governance. RGloucester 17:39, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Again, the common name of the country is "Taiwan". However, this entity does not serve the country, but the state structure, which is called the "Republic of China". The state structure does not claim to serve "Taiwan", regardless of the common name of the country. No one wants to change that article title. However, this body is not "of Taiwan" in any sense. Reversion? The move is currently being discussed. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 12:32, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Necrothesp: That would break consistency with other titles, like Central Election Commission of Ukraine. --George Ho (talk) 03:31, 6 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Then it's they which need to be moved, as this is our usual naming policy. We don't just make up names to be consistent. In any case, if you look at Category:Election commissions you'll see that a number actually do have the correct parenthesised titles. If it's not part of the actual name of the organisation (or a commonly used version) then it should only be added in parentheses. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:43, 6 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
