Egypt's Feelings
editEgypt didn't feel excluded. They joined India in nonalliance during the Cold War. Perhaps the CTO forced them into weapons deals with the Soviets, since their refusal was ill-met by the US. But that's pretty different. --Schwael 04:33, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- It was one of Nasser's bugaboos (he considered it to be an implementation of western imperialism, etc). AnonMoos (talk) 14:30, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
METO v. MEDO
editI've also seen it referenced to as the Middle East Defence Organization. See: Halliday, Fred, 2005: The Middle East in International Relations: Power, Politics and Ideology, New York: Cambridge UP. p. 113 Is it a translation difference that can go either way? - I think it was most frequently called the "Baghdad Pact" in U.S. newspapers... AnonMoos (talk) 14:32, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Should be renamed Baghdad Pact
editBaghdad Pact is overwhelmingly WP:COMMONAME used in the literature. The rename to CENTO and its twenty more years of existence was "decision to save face because everybody knew and almost admitted in so many words that the organization was just a facade."
