As I am sure you know, the definition of Centric Relation as regards a verifiable and repeatable condylar position within the glenoid fossa has been a source of some considerable debate. I am curious as to how you regard the definition of Centric Relation as presented by Dr. Peter Dawson in his works, including his latest Functional Occlusion: From TMJ to Smile Design eliminating the term "posterior". I am relatively new to the study of occlusion, and I am interested in thoughts regarding Dr. Dawson, the Las Vegas Institute, and others with whom I am not yet familiar. Thank you.
Centric relation is no longer considered as the position of the condyle in the most posterior-superior postion in the glenoid fossa. This was the definition of CR before 1987 but since has been updated. The current Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms defines CR as " a maxillomandibular relationship in which the condyles articulate with the thinnest avascular portion of their respective disks with the complex in the anterior-superior position against the slopes of the articular eminences."
