What is it made of?
editThe question of construction materials for the NGP is interesting. Some reporters have indicated that they believe the aircraft is of "all-metal" construction, even given the shape of the fuselage. Certainly if Cessna is going to make the assumed performance and price goals, metal construction will achieve that far more easily than the company developing an all-new capability in structural composites. Time will tell! Ahunt 21:10, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
I note that a recent edit by Jmarshmallow has changed "predominantly aluminum construction" to "composite construction with aluminum control surfaces" - do you have any reference for this change? I realize that we mostly have just speculation at this point - Cessna have made no statements at all that I can find. Observers at OSH this year where it was shown in the air indicated that it had a similar fuselage and fin shape to the Cessna LSA Concept aircraft which is confirmed as "all metal". Do you have new info? Ahunt 10:41, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Lacking any response to the question of a reference for the statement that the NGP is made from composite materials I have changed the article to indictate that materials are "unconfirmed". Once someone can check the actual aircraft prototype, or when Cessna issues a press release or other info, this can obviously be updated. Ahunt 11:00, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
The NGP is going to be a mixture of composite and aluminum construction. http://cessna.com/news/article.chtml?ID=dNbfOr2pZZ5cxTitp4vOpJIZ795TlbJMSTj5dNaWS6G1Kvn12t I work for a Cessna Service Center and the last word we got was that the fuselage was going to be all composite, while control surfaces would remain aluminum. I am also thinking that some of the wing internal structure will be aluminum, such as spars. ````
"Cirrus Killer"
editI wonder if Cessna is considering a parachute system like Cirrus' CAPS system? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by AbstractClass (talk • contribs) 23:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC).
At this time there is no plan for Cessna to add a parachute to this airplane. In fact, at this time there is no plan to add the airplane to production. This airplane has been in the development stage much longer than the LSA, yet the LSA has already begun taking orders. This means that the NGP may never reach the production stages.
Civil Air Patrol the launch customer
editAt the Civil Air Patrol Northeast Region 2006 conference it was announced by Col. Richard Greenhut that CAP was going to be the launch customer to what he then called "Cessna's Cirrus killer", presumably this aircraft. Does anyone have any documentation or reliable source to support this? I was at the conference, and know that the announcement was made, but as we all know politics and such can change and this may no longer be the case. I'd like to get independent confirmation before adding it to the article. --OuroborosCobra 07:39, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
That is an interesting announcement. It probably doesn't make sense to add it to the article, even if a ref can be found that confirms he said that. Since Cessna has not made a decision to produce the aircraft and has not taken any orders for it, there really can't be a "launch customer" yet. - Ahunt 12:57, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
