Wikipedia is not a how-to guide. Nor is stuff like ""TO THE LEFT NOW": GRAPEVINE LEFT WITH TOUCH 1,2 Step LEFT" sensical, much less encyclopedic. -R. fiend 28 June 2005 16:35 (UTC)

It says the second version of it is less common and less danced to, but every time I've heard it, the lyrics in the beginning are something like, "this is something new: this is the Casper Slide Part 2", so I always presumed that the second one was more popular. There can be some confusion as to which version a listener or fan is seeking, since all versions seem to be played equally in public functions, arenas, school dances, etc. I've narrowed it to two common versions, they both have "the Casper Slide Part 2" in the lyrics, but the soundplay and vocals are entirely different. The MV on Youtube with the news reporter is a very low bass version, with deeper vocals, and does not have the bright "hippity-hop wedding" synthesizer, which is the one that kids are more used to. Download websites will even have them incorrectly titled, but the key in finding the right version is the length, which is correct on the article.Soyasauce (talk) 20:22, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

basic step

Please review the video at AOL. [1] In the intro to the song the "basic step" is referred to. For the most part, it consists of a slide, or vine to the left, followed by walking back. Then a hop, etc. Although it changes throughout the song (unlike almost all other line dances), the choreographer clearly introduces "the basic step". Steve Pastor 22:49, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Every Novelty/fad dance has a repetitive choreography, possibly varying, but basically fixed. This is the whole point for a crowd to do it in sync. It is not called "basic step". But if the choreographer of this particular dance did use the term "basic step", please provide the reference from a reputable source (and a brief description is desirable). Um, the video is by the man who made up the dance, not an "unknown instructor". Is a video by the originator of the dance a valid reference? I'd say so. This dance is similar to the Madison from the 1960s. The crowd "stays in sync" by listening to the caller as he calls out various moves. Come to think of it, that's what happens with square dancing. Personally, I think the short basic step text I had in the article a while back is both suitable and informative. Miikka thought otherwise. I do not indulge in edit wars. MC Jig

Who do you think MC Jig is important enough to be mentioned here? The rule of thumb is that if someone does not make a wikipedia bio, he is not worth mentioning for something which is not his. By google collects miserable 202 unique google hits, mostly sales of his Cha Cha Slide, i.e., promotion only, with no any meanigful info. In wikipedia he is nobody. But if you insist, no big deal with me.

Callum Wood

The body text of this article states repeatedly that the song was written by the artist himself, DJ Casper, real name Willie Perry, Jr. We have had frequent edits by anons changing the writing credit to "Callum Wood", whoever that is, without providing a source or changing the body of the article to match. I'm thinking we need to keep an eye out to see if this continues. CaptHayfever (talk) 05:11, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

Hyphenated?

Is “Cha Cha” hyphenated or not? The article title is not hyphenated, but the album title is, and the track listing has the track hyphenated. Felicity4711 (talk) 23:56, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

It is definitely hyphenated in all of its promotional guises: album covers, articles, etc. It appears unhyphenated in court filings and its BMI registry, but it seems like the Wikipedia article should reflect the most popularly known version of the title.
