All Doom & Gloom
editWhile I am grateful for those that have contributed to this page so far, I am sad that it focuses exclusively on the negative aspects of Chajul. It is important to cover the effects of the civil war and the current issues, but not covering the positive aspects does a disservice to the Ixil of Chajul.
Why not have a section that mentions different non-profits that are making a difference? Philantropiece, Limitless Horizons Ixil and ASOIXIL are three examples (and that last one is founded and run by Chajul locals!)
Other positive aspects could be the yearly festivals, the strength of the Ixil language and culture, and the beauty of the the textiles that the Ixil women produce. The vibrancy of the Catholic and Protestant churches could be another section.
I also would like to see the source for the "2002 study" that states that "less than 1% of children graduate from high school (5% from middle school)." Maybe it is just dated, but having spent a month there in 2014, I can affirm that there were a LOT of kids in high school and college. I know there is at least one young man who is finishing his master's degree!
I would do this all myself but don't yet have the time. If you know about Chajul and can beat me to it, I would be most appreciative!
Thank you,
External links modified
editHello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Chajul. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:
- Attempted to fix sourcing for http://shr.aaas.org/guatemala/ceh/mds/spanish/anexo1/vol2/no59.html
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}
