GA review
editJust a few improvements needed.
The lead section should adequately summarize the content of the article; see WP:LEAD for guidelines here.
Info about climate could be added to the geography section.
Does the town have any transport links apart from the Interstate? What public transport is there?
A section is needed on culture, covering local events, attractions, media outlets, sports clubs etc.
A few more citations are needed in the history section.

- Note There is no public transportation in the town. Wǐkǐɧérṃǐť(Talk) 02:04, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- [1] There is a bus "trolley" system. Tbjablin 02:15, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Historically there was lots of public transpo - e.g. to Caldonia. 5 years ago I once took a public bus to the mall from downtown (Car in shop, 3 other people on the bus!) BTW - is it "Scotland Mall" and does it fit in here? As far as "culture", I almost hate to say it, but church going is a type of culture, so is July 4th fireworks, there are some things at Wilson College.

Pass! The article now passes the Good Article criteria. However, I still think more could be added about the recent history of the town and about the culture. Epbr123 08:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Great GA!
editThanks to all who contributed. Actually I think we can make it much better - intro, culture, etc.

Note:
An individual with associated with the individual Kyle Rogers apparently believes that because he is a "correspondent" for a second-tier regional news program geared toward a teenage population, he deserves mention within the "notable people section" in Chambersburg.
As a lifelong resident, this is beyond insulting, and I would encourage anyone who sees this reference return to delete it immediately. Our history is far too rich to allow someone to claim they are a notable resident simply because they did a few interviews on television. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.174.28.128 (talk) 23:57, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Take it further?
editThere have been a lot of things added since the GA was given. I'm almost thinking that there is too much, but that doesn't seem to be a problem that's noted on too many wikipedia articles. (removing the redundant area code and zip code was good).
I'd like to see what others think of going for FA status. This would probably require some reformatting of footnotes, rewriting the culture and economy sections, as well as the intro, and finding something interesting to say about C-burg after the civil war(!). I'm sure reviewers would find some other things as well. I've got a month off coming up (with some travel time required) - so this would be the time that I have to spend on it.
Thanks for any input. Smallbones 10:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

NRHPs in Chambersburg
editI commented in the peer review, still open, that the Chambersburg article could be enriched by developing articles on the sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places that are in Chambersburg.
These are as follows:
Brotherton FarmChambersburg Historic DistrictColdbrook FarmFranklin County Courthouse (Pennsylvania)Franklin County Jail (Chambersburg, Pennsylvania)Gass HouseJames Finley HouseJohn Brown House (Chambersburg, Pennsylvania)Masonic Temple (Chambersburg, Pennsylvania)Memorial Fountain and StatueRocky Spring Presbyterian ChurchTownhouse RowWilson College (Pennsylvania)Zion Reformed Church (Chambersburg, Pennsylvania)
Starter info, including address and summary info, is available at Franklin County listings of NRHP.COM, a commercial site serving up the public domain National Register info
I would be happy to help in developing any of these, for example by adding a NRHP infobox and by helping get sources. I marked by strikeout the one article recently developed, which is a DYK today by the way. The NRHP nomination text, a great source of info for wikipedia articles, is available for each one of these by request from the National Register in Washington, D.C., and/or is available electronically on the Pennsylvania state ARCH system cited in the Franklin County Courthouse (Pennsylvania) article. The article on Wilson College, the other non-red-link, could be developed to cover its NRHP-ness. Hope this is helpful to someone. Please feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. doncram (talk) 21:13, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Scotland School for Veterans' Children
editI have reworded this sub-section as past tense, and added an inline citation for the closing. I created the Scotland, Pennsylvania article and put a brief mention of the Scotland School for Veterans' Children there. Even though the school has been closed, is plenty of additional material on the school on the web, and alumni, faculty, and residents of Franklin County, Pennsylvania will be interested in the history and what becomes of the buildings and land. I invite other editors to carry on with this possibility. --DThomsen8 (talk) 18:22, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
David Brooks quote
editThe quote was removed and I've put it back in (without the gun club paragraph that followed). The quote is an opinion, but of a very well known journalist, and it is rare that such a good source gives such a considered opinion on a small town like this. Our rules don't exclude such an opinion from a reliable source (only from editors themselves). Ultimately, whether such an opinion is included is a matter of consensus - so please discuss it here if you want to delete it. I'll just say that, though part of the quote is humorous, it is definitely NOT an insult to the residents of Chambersburg. I'd guess that whomever removed it is a new resident who wishes the town was different, but he or she should get to know the town and appreciate it and the gentle humor of the quote. Incorrect "main article" reference
editThe "Main Article" reference to "Chambersburg Raid" for the "Burning of entire town 1864" is incorrect because that article is exclusivly about the 1862 event. Pantagnosis (talk) 20:26, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

This 2007 listing contains significant uncited material, especially in the "History", "Notable people" and "Demographics" sections; the last of these also relies on data from the 2000 census (there have been two since). It thus fails GA criteria 2b) and 3a). ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 22:13, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
