editI agree that Qamdo Region and Qamdo Prefecture would be the same word in Chinese (昌都地区). I had the impression that Qamdo Region had a different structure and role before it was incorporated into the TAR. If that's the case, it should be dabbed separately. If not, it seems like it is basically the same thing as Qamdo Prefecture, and so it shouldn't be mentioned at all. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 01:27, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- My impression is that the difference is the Qamdo Region was not officially a part of Tibet (whatever its status) before 1949. --Sumple (Talk) 03:42, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the Dalai Lama had a governor there in 1950, Ngabo Ngawang Jigme, who famously surrendered to the PLA. I think 昌都地区 was set up after that. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 03:48, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm I think you are right. Qamdo Region was set up after that, and then this changed to Qamdo Prefecture when TAR was set up and administrative divisions were standardised? --Sumple (Talk) 06:21, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
