One or two things
Does anyone else think that Boco merits a section? He does have a personality and a wife, after all.
Also, when did Faris' last name become "Scherwitz?" It's "Scherwiz" everywhere else that I've seen it. Eowynjedi 19:55, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, putting Boco in the 'other characters' list would be a good idea.
Also for consideration...
Gilgamesh - Even if he has his own page, he should still be mentioned here, and have the link to the other page.
Cid & Mid Previa - Major characters (particularly in the First World), plus since Cid IS Cid, and in the other FF lists NPC Cids are mentioned despite there also being a Cid (Final Fantasy) page.
Kelgar, Drogan/Dorgan, and Zeza - They ARE the Warriors of Dawn, after all.
Alexander Highwind Tycoon - Major character, particularly in the First World and near the end as well.
Also I'm not sure if each one merits a section, but the different generals of Exdeath deserve to be mentioned. 24.42.246.206
- Definitely a good idea. I'll make a separate section about the original WoDs and tackle them first. Eowynjedi 21:14, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- Um, a mistake on your Kelga section... Kelga was NOT the wolf that helped you in the Steamship. He was sent by Kelga; I believe one of the werewolves in Kelb mentions him (his brother). Also, I don't think he was Lone Wolf, either.
- Oh, right. Thanks for catching that. I added a heading for Coco as well, and hopefully I'll be able to get to her and Boco tonight.Eowynjedi 19:52, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ack! I forgot about Gill! He surely warrents mention.
- BTW, does anyone know how you can remove or rearrange that second mention of Galuf and Krile's names in the headers without screwing up the format? 24.42.246.206 20:46, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Suggested splits
I don't think there's much call to split and restore the (redirected) character articles. Most of the 'character' details on this page are actually story events; they need to be merged into a cohesive story summary and moved to the main Final Fantasy V article (a la Final Fantasy IV or Final Fantasy VIII). >Gamemaker 00:50, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. Not only are separate Wikipedia entries unnecessary, they will fracture the information even further. - Tzaquiel 22:09, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- As an FFV fan, I really would like to see each character have his/her own section as they do in other games. Krile, in particular, is the first "spunky female" character archtype that is repeated in 7, 8, 9, and 10. One could also make a case for Faris being one of the first strong, independent, and authoritative female characters who paved the way for others such as Celes and Tifa, though I think that would cross the line into POV-land. You do have a point about their sections (Bartz and Reina in particular) being plot retellings with different wording, which I will try to fix. However, they are events that are important to each character. The death of Hydra is under Faris' section rather than Galuf's because that deeply affected her. Adding the endings for each of the characters would probably help to individualize the sections as well. Eowynjedi 01:54, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Update: I've pretty much rewritten Bartz' article, and I plan to redo the others Warriors of Dawn as well. I have the old stuff saved on my computer, though, so I can add it to the scrappy story section in the main article. Eowynjedi 20:27, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure keeping them confined to a list is really a preference thing though. The Final Fantasy VII-X characters have their own articles for notablity purposes. Characters from Final Fantasy IV all have articles because they were created before a general concensus (which was a HUGE issue a few months ago) about notable characters and their own articles, and they should probably be dissolved into the already sufficient List of Final Fantasy IV characters. But, perhaps the rerelease of Final Fantasy V on the Game Boy Advance will bring this to new light. ~ Hibana 21:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Adding my £0.02: There was a lot of dicussion when these articles were merged, the concensous was that merging was the best option for character that have only appeared in one game. Nothing has changed, the articles should stay merged. --JiFish(Talk/Contrib) 18:15, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- There was? I've only been here a few months, so I might be missing something, but this talk page had been empty until I brought up Boco, and Faris' last name.
- And as for characters only appearing in one game, all the VI and IX characters have their own articles, and none of them appeared outside their games until KH2. (Although there's an argument to be made for the fact that the Square writers weren't so darned lazy when they came up with them, faugh.) Eowynjedi 23:34, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- Considering there doesn't seem to be many people arguing for undoing the merge, and the merge concensous was recently, I have removed the suggested split tags. If you still disagree, maybe we can get some editors from the wikiproject to weigh in. --JiFish(Talk/Contrib) 14:56, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'll concede the point for now, but I still want to know where this "lot of discussion" was, because it sure doesn't seem to be here. Eowynjedi 22:34, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Here it is. ~ Hibana 03:27, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- All right, thanks. After reading through that... well, I still think they should get their own articles, but I can see why it could be considered unnecessary for all the characters to have an article. Hopefully the rerelease will add some more depth to Bartz and co. Eowynjedi 18:45, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Does Halycanos really count as a primary antagonist?
I mean, he's only one of the many bosses that are fought near the end of the game. He's really no different than Catastrophe, Apanda, Twintania, etc. So why does he merit such a large section of this article? I feel I should take it out (or if not me, someone else, since I don't know if I can bring myself to do that).
- I think it should be condensed, but not exactly removed fully. I think, besides Gilgamesh, that there could be an 'X-Death's Generals' (Grrr, sounds like an item, I really hope they change that in FFV Advance) heading under major villains, which lists and give a brief description of each of them...
- Speaking of which, I think when FFV Advance comes out, we should change the main names to whatever they are in that game. Let's face it, the PSX release wasn't exactly the best translation job for a game. 24.42.246.206 13:41, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with 24. An X-Death general section sounds good. And yeah, hopefully they'll do a better job on the translation. (Though I think that Bartz and Reina are better names than Butz and Lenna.) I think the policy is to have the article reflect the most recent incarnation of the game anyhow. Eowynjedi 20:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
X-Death Mistake
Just a slight mistake I'd like to correct...
In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy XII, Exodus IS X-Death. It was a translation error; the exact name is エクスデス pronounced "Ekusudesu"...which can understandably be mistranslated as "Exodus." Their names are the same; you can look at "X-Death's" original japanese name if you like. its meant to be tied to the original villain of FFV..."X-Death" or.."ExDeath" or however you want to call it. It's more than a resemblence; just like all the summons in Final Fantasy XII, he's a villain making a cameo. I've made the adequate correction stating this, so I hope this helps.198.213.57.8 03:04, 15 May 2006 (UTC)Makoeyes
- I knew it! It really is Exdeath. Hmm... on that 'X-Death's Generals'... I'm going to look over a boss list in a while, they should be easy to spot in that. 72.38.187.62 14:59, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- How do you know it's not the other way 'round? Is there a way to tell that it wasn't FFV that made the mistranslation? --81.129.41.114 22:19, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
In the anime sequel, Exdeath was called "Exodes" in the dub.
クルル's name's roman spelling
Firstly, it's not <kululu> or <kururu>; the latter is obviously a transcription and the former has no basis as far as I know. The japanese article gives it as <clule>, and since that's to me the most æsthetic, and the only one that makes sense, I'm using it in the article. Does anyone have a source for her name's spelling though? Bob A 04:45, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Ra Devil?
What is that? I don't remember that....
- Ah, it's from Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals an OVA anime that takes place in the same world as FFV (That's also where the New Warriors of Dawn are from). 74.104.1.49 14:30, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Reina/Lenna
Initial screenshots of the English GBA release are using "Lenna". Since that's her proper official romanization, should it replace the earlier PS1 release? This would also address the possibility of additional translation changes for the final GBA release.
- It might be better to wait until the game actually comes out, then we can change any needed names. 74.104.1.49 13:34, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the game is out now, and many names have been changed. Maetch 17:49, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Do the characters from the anime belong?
I don't think that these characters belong on the Final Fantasy V character page, because they're not really Final Fantasy V characters. I was very confused the other day while reading this page (especially by the anime information on Cid and Mid). I believe this should be considered. HeroOfVirtue 22:44, 8 January 2007 (UTC)HeroOfVirtue Bold text
I agree wholeheartedly. There's not even a mention what part is from the game and what is from the anime in Cid's and Mid's profiles! Nor there are any other characters mentioned from the anime than Hassan. I'll go delete the parts from the anime now, if no-one minds... SamSandy 17:47, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Restored page.
This page got caught up in a whirlwind of mergers. See the Final Fantasy project archives for more.
If anyone has information on the creation of FFV's characters, that'd be great, though good luck. I rather doubt it's available, or terribly interesting if it is there (we may be stuck with Amano as the character designer and little more). In light of that, I'd be in favor of moving this article back to List of Final Fantasy V characters. SnowFire 00:20, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with the restoration. However, I am opposed to the list title; the point is for these articles to be seen as articles, and adding additional sections like criticism and sections for each character is not the same as a List of birds or something similar. — Deckiller 00:22, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
FF Legend of the Crystals
These characters don't really belong there; they should just be covered in the appropriate page. Moving info.
- Why? o_O. I am not agree. FFVII section includes characters of AC and DC, and FFX section includes characters of FFX-2. Therefore, characters of Legend of the Crystals must be here, since they belong to the same world and storyline (sorry, I'm spanish, I know that my english is bad ^^U).
- But you haven't mentioned the anime in the text! People reading the page will think that Ra Devil, Hassan and the other references are from the game, which they aren't. If you want Legend of the Crystals characters into the list (and I see no reason why they should be, since the anime is a half-assed spin-off and not a direct sequel to the game), why don't you put them under one headline, instead of mixing them with the original characters? SamSandy 17:50, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Besides, the title says "Characters of Final Fantasy V", there's no mention about the anime anywhere in the page. SamSandy 17:53, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Legend of the Crystal IS A DIRECT SEQUEL of FFV but its characters (Linaly, Rouge...) aren't in the list. Advent Children is a direct sequel of FFVII and its characters are in the list. Why?
- Did you even read what I said? I have no opposition if Legend of the Crystal characters are put to this list under their own headline(just like Advent Children characters are). They need to be clearly separated from the characters of Final Fantasy V, since they don't appear in the game. Otherwise people will get confused and expect to see Linaly, Rouge, Hassan etc. in the game when they play it. SamSandy 19:15, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Did you even read what YOU said? ¬¬. You said "I see no reason why they should be, since the anime is a half-assed spin-off and not a direct sequel to the game". False, Legend of the Crystals is a DIRECT SEQUEL of FFV. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.38.4.129 (talk) 00:58, August 23, 2007 (UTC)
Use of "Anthologies" on this page
Scanned through article quickly and changed all occurrences of "Anthologies" to the proper title "Anthology". If I missed any, I would appreciate it if someone would pick those off. Just bugs me. Jonas.E.B. 07:56, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Pictures
Wouldn't it be better if we had pictures of Amano's artwork rather than the 3d renderings? Just a Thought65.124.8.131 16:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Amano's look nothing like the in game images so they're missleading on they're own. MJN SEIFER (talk) 20:00, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Full names
I notice someone deleted the surnames of characters, can someone explain why? All the poster said was "using in game names" - it looks like vandalism(sp?) to me... MJN SEIFER (talk) 20:04, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
GBA Name Use
I haven't thoroughly scanned the article, but I've caught instances of "___ (___ in the GBA version)", which runs counter to Wikipedia's policy of using the most recent official names and terms. Could someone more familiar with FFV go through and put things in their more proper order? T.J. Fuller, Jr. (talk) 20:35, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Notability
The warning about lacking notability seems unjustified to me. The article cites many sources, they are characters designed by Amano, and most FF games have articles for their own characters. On top of that, FF8's characters actually have their own featured article, and FF8 is frequently accused of lacking plot, character development, and of having an unlikeable main character (all mentioned in the FF8 characters' article). FFV sold well (Anthology was also a greatest hit) and is popular (i.e. has a fan base). Though it is a fairly common criticism that the game's plot lacks character development, it is also a common praise that the characters are well designed and interesting (or at least cool). These critiques of FFV are mentioned in the Final Fantasy V article. Clearly the game is notable and so are the characters for the aforementioned reasons. Does anyone know how to request to get that notability warning taken down? (Ejoty (talk) 16:37, 3 July 2009 (UTC))
Remove Notability Warning
Stopping by this article again, I notice the warning's still there. Can any of us just delete it, or is that breaking some rule? Is some special person in particular supposed to delete it? I read up on "notability" but aren't sure if we can do it. If nobody gives an argument against the article (keeping in mind my previous post), let's just delete the warning. The article meets the guidelines. (Ejoty (talk) 12:28, 22 July 2009 (UTC))
Notability warning deleted. (Ejoty (talk) 13:41, 29 July 2009 (UTC))
