editnice job, have two references that may be portrait, but not available online: [1][2] pohick (talk) 17:07, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
quibble, you say "the enemy commander" General la Vega, but he was "one of Mariano Arista's commanders, Brig. Gen. Rómulo Díaz de la Vega".[3] (p.25)pohick (talk) 17:27, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Good point, I clarified the statement. Strikehold (talk) 17:53, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Birthdate?
editThe NYT obituary says Aug. 9, 1818, but the reference is not directly from the NYT, but a genealogical site, so it may be suspect (e.g. it may have been copied into text by hand or OCR, either of which is prone to error). The Freemasons directory says Aug. 9, 1817.
The "Heroes of the War of 1812" book says 1812.... This is the only source I've found so far that is an original document which gives his birth year. The NYT obituary and Freemason directory were both copied, probably by OCR, which could conceivably mistake a "2" for a "7" or an "8". Strikehold (talk) 23:40, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

- It is reasonably well written.
- a (prose): b (MoS):
- Intro is not really substantial enough for a GA bio - should be a couple of paras covering the main points described in the body of the article.

- Perhaps I've missed something but don't see anywhere that the Battle of Monterrey, noted in the infobox, is referred to in the body of the article.

- You are right. Most of the sources didn't go into too much detail on his involvement there, but I found a mention of where his unit fell in the order of battle. I added a section on this battle. Strikehold (talk) 08:26, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Aside from these points, the article looks very good, and if you can address these in the next week or so I'll have no prob passing as GA.
One minor style issue that doesn't have a bearing on passing or not, the word "served" is repeated in quick succession in After the Mexican War, May served in several different parts of the American frontier, including California,[15] New Mexico,[16] and Texas.[17] He served with the First Regiment of Dragoons in the Kansas Territory... Could the second occurrence be altered to say "attached to" or some such to avoid the repetition?
- That's a good point. Done. Strikehold (talk) 08:26, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
