needs work
editI did a little triage cleanup on this article yesterday, and was surprised that I couldn't easily find a list of his children nor even his education before Paris. Tho Ellet's career involved many locations, another important factor may have been antipathy toward slavery, as per other Unionist Virginians I've encountered. During my limited time at the local history library, I found no U.S. nor Virginia slave schedules under his name, but also couldn't find his census returns after this marriage (1840, 1850 and 1860, there being a surprising number of people with this last name). I also wondered if he became the only casualty of the battle because of a mechanical issue, reading somewhere long ago that his injuries were due to steam not shrapnel. His vessel rammed the lead Confederate ship, as did another of the Union rams that he had relatives commanded. I noticed the additional reading list included no biographies, and was puzzled by the inclusion of three econometrics articles, with no mention in the text. Plus, the nearest library with public JSTOR access has been closed to non-alumni now for nearly 6 months (in a renovation that was supposed to take a month or 2).Jweaver28 (talk) 15:50, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments... I agree and have added his bibliography Risk Engineer (talk) 22:38, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Wounded knee
editAbbott says that Ellet was wounded by a bullet "pistol ball" in the knee, with the ball stuck hard in the knee joint. Ellet refused to have his leg amputated, which very likely would have saved his life. Ellet said he would rather die than live with one leg. As expected, the injury killed him after infection moved up into his body. Binksternet (talk) 18:03, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
B class review
edit@Dwkaminski: B class. If Ellet's publications are listed in a book, please write "Ellet published the following books and essays.[citation]". If not, we will let it go for now. Also, all the online sources should have access dates. Whether these need to be fixed will be up to the GA reviewer. Djmaschek (talk) 05:27, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
Individual assessment
editGA Reassessment
edit- This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Charles Ellet Jr./GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.
I had submitted previous for Good Article status but it was rejected. I corrected the errors and submitted to Wikiproject Military History for B-level assessment and received that categorization. I would like to have the page reassessed for Good Article status.Dwkaminski (talk) 16:17, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
