editI read Charles Eric Maine's He Owned the World in sixth grade, in Westerly, R.I. in 1962. It was given to me by my friend Victor Klemenko, a fellow student in 6th grade who was from Russia with whom I played chess. The book grabbed my imagination. The surprise ending, culminating in the last page...the last sentence actually...along with the suspense and the atmospheric writing, increased my excitement about reading, the creative process of writing and also science fiction. It is amazing to me how a novel, by an English writer, could have such a profound effect on a ten year old American boy in Rhode Island. Glenn Feole, M.D. Queequeg804 19:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
