Wrong Rank
editMr. French could not have been a First Petty Officer as the navy was segregated at the time and the only role black men had on naval vessels were stewards and messmen, neither of which was an officer's rank. Wkharrisjr (talk) 00:36, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- That may be his final rank. First source says he was a messmate. Good catch. MartinezMD (talk) 01:14, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- Just to let you know a “petty officer” in the navy is not actually an officer rank. A petty officer is part of a rank title from anything e-4-e9 (enlisted ranks 4-9). So with that being said a petty officer first class would be an enlisted rank (e-6). You can always google Navy enlisted ranks to see how they’re titled. Hope that helps! Introductory paragraph
editThe introduction only mentions that he enlisted twice in the Navy, but nothing about him being awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. The medal and the story behind it are what make him notable and should probably be the highlight of the introduction paragraph. 2603:8001:600:670B:1D84:8944:96D1:81CF (talk) 20:55, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
