This article is seriously out of date. Maya Sainisch-Plimer's 2008 book Without Bismarck No Broken Hill establishes that Rasp's real name was Jerome von Pereira, and he had a much more complex background than Curtis realised when he wrote his 1908 book, which is the source of almost everything that has previously been written about Rasp.
