Recordings of Skilton's Indianist Compositions

edit

There may be a lot more contemporary (78 rpm) recordings of Skilton's music than the article acknowledges so far. Between 1920-1921, "Kickapoo Social Dance" and "Sioux Flute Serenade" appeared on Columbia A3106 ([1]). In the same year, a symphony orchestra under Nahan Franco recorded "Cheyenne War Dance" for Pathé in New York (The Graduate Magazine of the University of Kansas, Jun. 1921, p. 14: [2]). The Discography of American Historical Recordings (DAHR) lists a total of 9 Victor recordings from between 1924-1929 ([3]). The Library of Congress has digitized two of them, on Victor 19556, which contains "War Dance" and "Sioux Flute Serenade" (both recorded Dec. 23, 1924): [4] and [5]. In 1947, the "Swanee Indian Hunting Dance" and "Cheyenne War Dance", were recorded by an RCA Victor studio orchestra under the direction of Ardon Cornwell for an album entitled "Music of American Indians" as part of the RCA Victor Record Library For Elementary Schools ([6]).Xiphophilos (talk) 19:51, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
