Naming Convention
editIf Towneley is more usually spelled Townley, then why is that name not used for the article with mention of the alternate spelling. It's just confusing to do it t'other way round.--Eva db 09:11, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- Towneley is the seat. Townley always spelled his name Townley and is discussed in the literature as Townley. Wikipedians do generally opt for an obscure form, if available. --Wetman 14:19, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- There is not only an officer but also an artist Charles Townley, Engraver to his Majesty..., member of Royal Academies etc., whom I am going to write about. Therefore I strongly suggest a disambiguation page. --Hodsha (talk) 10:45, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- That article has not yet appeared. There seems no objection to correcting the spelling of Charles Townley.--Wetman (talk) 20:34, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

- Now completed. Johnbod (talk) 00:06, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- Support Townley for him, but still "Towneley" for his marbles, whatever the BM says. Amazingly there was no redirect for them. I have adjusted the text a bit. Johnbod (talk) 00:06, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- Any additional comments:
- Comment: What ever the outcome of the move, the article should spell his name consistently after explaining the two spellings. --J Clear (talk) 00:37, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
