editIf this article is about both of Jackie Chan's parents then it should be named after both of them instead of just one. I propose the article be renamed. 134.114.59.41 02:06, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- How did this article get so long - its longer than Jackies! - Matthew238 03:02, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
I moved the article to the proper name of "Charles and Lee-Lee Chan" to reflect its subject material. I added Lee-lee's info to the opening as well. However, this page is still a horrible mess because it's just a rough collection of material thrown together. It needs lots of work. (Ghostexorcist 15:09, 4 January 2007 (UTC))
Does the fact that they were a famous person's parents qualify them to have a Wikipedia article? Would it be more reasonable maybe to include part of their biographical information as a section in Jackie Chan's article? - Odikuas 14:15, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Agreed - having a famous child doesn't make you famous - this should be a candidate for deletion. Smurfmeister (talk) 09:54, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, the article is well sourced, and Jackie's family was extensively covered in a documentary "Traces of the Dragon.--60.242.159.224 (talk) 04:35, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I completely agree with you - also the recent news of Charles' death was widely mentioned on new websites and on Chinese television - therefore he was famous. Nathan (talk) 09:20, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Well sourced? This article uses as sources Jackie Chan's personal website and a website devoted to him. That's not proper reference. Again, apart from the fact that he was Jackie Chan's father, what is his other claim to fame and a Wikipedia article to go with it? Odikuas 10:36, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Exactly! It doesn't matter how 'well sourced' the article is; I could write a well source article on my grandparents, but that wouldn't mean it was relevant to Wikipedia! Smurfmeister (talk) 11:50, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
They were the subject of a documentary Traces of a Dragon , that alone should be enough to keep it on wiki, and charles chan recent death has attracted significant media attention, and his funeral was attended by several important people, with condolences from even more, no brainer.--DaliusButkus (talk) 18:27, 11 March 2008 (UTC) I completely agree with you - this page should be kept, or at least merged with the page for Traces of a Dragon Nathan (talk) 20:18, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
According to The Canberra Times, Jackie Chan's parents owned a Chinese resturaunt in Dickson, Canberra, Australia called "Ruby Chinese Resturaunt". -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs 06:25, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Charles and Lee-Lee Chan → Jackie Chan's parents – WP:Recognizability. While Charles had some cameo roles here and there, these two folks were best known for #1) being Jackie Chan's parents and #2) subjects of two films by Mabel Cheung: Traces of a Dragon (documentary) and A Tale of Three Cities (drama film). In the drama film, they were not called Charles and Lee-Lee anywhere, but as Fang Daolong and Chen Yuerong, which were their real names when they were in mainland China before their escape to Hong Kong. I haven't watched the documentary, but in the article Traces of a Dragon the words "Charles" and "Lee-lee" don't even appear, rather they were referred as "Fang Daolong/Chan Chi-peng" and "Lily". In view of all the names that are likely to confuse everybody, I think Jackie Chan's parents is probably the best title for the article. After all they wouldn't be the subject of anything if not for their son. Timmyshin (talk) 06:48, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. I don't think Jackie Chan's parents is a good title because I can't think of any biographies that eschew names in favor of something more "recognizable" which would certainly set an awkward precedent. Nohomersryan (talk) 13:30, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose I can't think of any biographies where the article subject isn't identified by name but by the subject's connection to some other person. It could maybe be appropriate if the subject's name is unknown, but that isn't the case here. --Stefan2 (talk) 15:18, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
- For one person, maybe not, but for multiple individuals, what about wives of Henry VIII? We can split the article into 2 individuals, as proposed in the article, but we'd likely still disambiguate the father as Charles Chan (Jackie Chan's father). Timmyshin (talk) 16:35, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
- I think that's a different situation. The article Wives of Henry VIII is essentially a list article which enumerates six women who all have their own separate articles. However, this article acts as the main article of both people. Also, the article title would be too long if it were to contain the names of six different people, but it is easier to include the names of two people. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:14, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

- Oppose per above opposes. Also, if I read the proposed title in an encyclopedia (if it were the actual title of the article), I would have suspected that the article was about a book or novel. Steel1943 (talk) 23:12, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Splitting in two?
editI don't believe I've seem many joint biographies here on Wikipedia. Wouldn't it make more sense to have two separate entries for each of the parents? After all, the material here is already greater than some of the other people related to Jackie Chan.
I'm still not sure about notability, but the fact that they have a documentary about them does persuade me that they satisfy notability. I disagree that they are only notable as a group - it seems like there is sufficient material for each of them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChunyangD (talk • contribs) 21:28, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Large amount of outlandish claims without source
editThe main source (when any) is the article subjects. The majority of the content here is most likely fiction. Asararai (talk) 23:40, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
