IOL

edit

How exactly is IOL an abbreviation for this organization? --UNHchabo 06:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is the abbreviation the organisation chooses to use for itself. It is usually only partially capitalised: IoL. For some (unknown) reason, they choose to miss the "Chartered" out of the abbreviation. SuperFraggle 10:47, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
The were called "Institute of Linguists" until about two years ago, and only added the "Chartered" then. The original fellows, members, and associates had FIL, MIL, and AIL after their names. ElinorD (talk) 22:42, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

I've reverted an edit just now because:

  • accessdates were removed from web references, although this is standard information. If you think it makes the article look dated, then follow the links, check that the information is still available in the source specified, and update the accessdate. Do not remove it.
  • the "KEStranslate" ref does not mention the FiL qualification
  • the Prince Michael ref says "his Fellowships include..." and makes no mention of being Patron. But the IoL's "about" page mentions this so I've added that ref.
  • there is still no sourcing for any of the "notable fellows"
  • {{use dmy dates}} was removed, perhaps because the editor didn't understand it: the template documentation specified "this tag should not be removed from articles without valid reason".
  • 3 appropriate stub tags were removed without explanation.

Please do not remove functional elements of WP articles because you don't like the look of them or don't understand them. PamD (talk) 07:27, 1 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
