The School Project notice on the article

edit

I don't think it needs to be there. I understand that a Professor may want it there, but I think having a similar notice on the talk page is sufficient. Anyone else have some opinions they'd like to share?--Rockfang (talk) 22:58, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The notices do not belong in the article, I have notified the professor and directed the students I could identify to that message. We should regard any further additions as vandalism, which may result in a block. §hepTalk 01:01, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am the Professor coordinating the project you commented on. The Educational Assignment notice should be on the Discussion Page as per the instructions I received from a Wiki editor. Please don't confuse my students -- this project will be completed in a couple of weeks and the notice will be removed. These are a work in progress and the purpose of the notice is to help people resist the temptation to "help". Prof. Chris DarlingEEB356Prof (talk) 12:47, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

You may want to rethink what you typed. I am agreeing with you. It should go on the Talk page like I stated above. Also, what did you mean by "...purpose of the notice is to help people resist the temptation to "help""? Editors not involved in your project are still allowed to edit the article while your project is ongoing.--Rockfang (talk) 16:46, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
EEB356Prof, please see WP:OWN it applies even in a "temporary" sense. The purpose of any wiki is for everybody to help each other. §hepTalk 03:22, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Help is always appreciated. I think the intent of EEB365Prof’s comment is just to request giving the students time so that they have the opportunity to learn - not written with the intent of any ownership.-- Mr Insect (talk) 03:55, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Comments like this are unhelpful to the community. Maybe the professor should have figured out how to use Wikipedia and then taught his students how to use the site before this project? It's simply a matter of following protocol more or less. Nonetheless the discussion how now strayed away from the subject and probably belongs elsewhere. §hepTalk 04:19, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Behavioral Ecology Assignment

edit

The general categories in the outline that could be included to further improve the article are webbing mechanism, parental care, and social behavior. As previously mentioned, I found the story about Mazda recalling their cars particularly interesting, and it would be helpful to supplement this entry with specific webbing tendencies / mechanisms demonstrated in these spiders to better understand why they chose that specific location to make their webs and perhaps find an explanation to this seemingly odd behavior. Furthermore, while this entry includes a subsection on behavior, it does not share much about the parental care or grouping behavior. More information on parental care would help the readers understand how the offsprings are maintained, and what offsprings may be favored over one another depending on which tend to receive the most parental care. Because they are active predators, it would also be interesting to see whether they have a grouping tendency, and how this would facilitate their hunting process.
