Discussion

edit

Great Leighs is now known as Chelmsford City and referred to as such in media sources e.g. here [1]. Article needs to be renamed, and the current redirect will have to be deleted. --Bcp67 (talk) 11:07, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

From that article, I gather this is a relatively new racecourse and an even newer renaming? I'm leaning support, though only if this is not one of those situations like the Breeders' Cup Distaff where we will be renaming again every other year... ? Montanabw(talk) 20:06, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yep, it's shortly to re-open under the new article and I suspect the re-branding is partly an attempt to move away from the failed first opening. In removing the speedy tag from the redirect page RHaworth reckoned it was too early to move the article, so I decided to put up a RM and see where the discussion goes. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:20, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Based on the previous history of this outfit may I suggest that it would be prudent to wait until at least one meeting takes place under the new name. Clearly some rebranding is going on but some much has been promised before that has never happened for one reason or another. S a g a C i t y (talk) 21:14, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Let's define "shortly" and perhaps get a sense of when they will hold a meet? I can see a benefit in renaming prior to a meet if it is in process. If there has been a change or ownership or some reason for rebranding that makes sense, I don't want to put up an artificial barrier. Still leaning yes, but would like more data. It's been granted fixtures for 2015 and I think the first meeting is due in January. However, for the moment I'm thinking of withdrawing the RM and waiting until racing actually resumes. "Chelmsford City" is an awful name actually, as the course is a fair distance from Chelmsford! --Bcp67 (talk) 15:33, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
I think it's a bit too soon. Given the history, I'd wait till they actually started holding meetings. If someone mentions Chelmsford City Racecoure I have to stop for a second before thinking "oh, the place that used to be Great Leighs". Official names aren't always the best: I can't see much call to move Newbury Racecourse to The Racecourse, Newbury. Let's come back in January. Tigerboy1966  21:43, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Looks to me like the consensus is to keep the article where it is, for now at least, which is fair enough. --Bcp67 (talk) 22:30, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Change of name

edit

Is this article ready for the change of name yet? Course has its first meeting this Sunday under the new name and is being generally referred to in the media as Chelmsford City now. --Bcp67 (talk) 17:42, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to try the RM again and see what happens.
