This article has a lot of great information. I did a spruce copyedit and formatting, along with some expansion. I did remove some material that was slightly off-topic from the river itself, namely details about Corning Glass and a few other things that I felt are more appropriate for other articles. -- Decumanus | Talk 01:18, 27 May 2004 (UTC)Reply

Did the river once pass through Horseheads, through the valley that I-86 and the railroads use(d)? --SPUI (T - C) 01:14, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

User:Eristikos added the following today. I'm copying it to here from there. It does appear that the article could use some references for this kind of information.--Malepheasant 03:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC):Reply

The Great Atlantic Pacific and Tea company was not "founded" in Elmira. It did have a plant there from the mid 60's until 1982 when it closed. I worked there for several years in the 60's.
All four Elmira bridges were not destroyed during the 1972 flood. Only Fitch's Bridge in west Elmira/Golden Glow was destroyed. The Army Corps of Engineers quickly put up a Bailey bridge on the old piers. I was one of the last to be allowed to cross the bridge before it was closed. At that point, the river was just a few feet below the deck of the bridge. It washed out later that evening/early morning.
