The local school

The third paragraph of the History section read as follows:

The local school from the mid an early 15th century was in the upstairs room of Church house (now called the old schooroom), with the village poor house below. This has been a venue for social activity in the village and in 1971 underwent major renovation.

The the mid an early 15th century section is unclear. I have attempted to improve this, however, I am not certain that what the sentence has ended up saying is correct. Feel free to improve this. — Grstain 17:06, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for spotting this - early to mid is as accurate as my source. However I think The Old School Room should capitalised as it is the name of the building Rod 18:32, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed.

• External links only belong in the external links section
• The famous residents section needs citations and should be made into prose.
• The Points of interest section has stubby subsections. Either expand on them or merge them into one section.
• Please provide citations for these statements:
  • "During the 19th and 20th centuries the importance of the wool trade in the village declined and it became largely a dormitory area for the cities of Bristol and Bath,"
  • "which will become North East Somerset at the next general election"
  • "The school is popular and oversubscribed. The school has been successful in gaining a number of national and regional awards."
  • "It is based at Tunbridge Mill, an old watermill almost certainly on the site of one of the mills mentioned in the Domesday Survey."

I will check back in no less than seven days. If progress is being made and issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GA/R). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAC. Tunbridge Mill; I can't find anything useful online to support the link to Domesday, but [2] cites Batsford Guide to Industrial Archaeology of Southern Central England, Buchanan 1960 as a reference and maybe it came from there. However, this snippet of information is speculative at best, and not really relevant to the sub-heading. So how about changing that sentence to 'It is based at Tunbridge Mill, a Post- medieval watermill' and citing [3]? Derek Andrews 00:29, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

The article states, "The village is a part of the Wansdyke constituency, which will become North East Somerset". This reads as though it will merely be a name change, but from other sources it appears the boundaries will also change. The text in the article should be adjusted to make this clearer. GA Pass

Introduction/schools

The introduction reads:

“There are two primary schools and a secondary school,…”

The section titled ‘Schools’ lists only one primary school and, with regard to the secondary school, correctly states:

“Chew Valley School is the main secondary school (11–18 years) for the valley.[18] It is situated between Chew Magna and Chew Stoke.”

I believe that here is only one primary school in the parish, and the secondary school is adjacent to, but outwith, the parish.

Therefore I suggest that the introduction section be amended to read:

“There is one primary school, and an adjacent secondary school,…” Troggers (talk) 07:21, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Chew Baker

A recent edit has added information about a Baker family memorial in the Church of St Andrew and the manor of "Chew Baker", as I'm not familiar with it and can't find any sources which mention it. Has anyone anymore info or sources?— Rod ^talk 19:44, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Not Baker--it's BABER

I've been to the church in Chew Magna. The family there isn't Baker it's BABER. That's me, Harriet Baber! This should be fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.19.39.211 (talk) 18:46, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks - now it is clear it is Baber and not Baker I Have been able to find a suitable source and have changed it in the article. This edit in June 2013 added Baker as the name and therefore my searches didn't find the info.— Rod ^talk 15:04, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
