The name for Chewelah comes from the Kalispell language not Spokane. The band that lived in the valley took allotments on the Spokane rez which is why there is some confusion. The area was named Chewelah prior to white settlement and was a winter stop over point since the marshland wouldn't freeze. Similarly, the flowery trail pass that leads to Cusick was in use prior to white settlement. Thesaltflats (talk) 08:25, 24 May 2010 (UTC)thesaltflatsReply

Quartzite trail

edit

The trail up quartzite is not maintained by Chewelah troop 998.....it is maintained by Valley troop 989. The trail up the backside, along with the sign marking the trail head (which has now been stolen), was built in the 90's by 989 from Valley WA. 66.189.183.62 (talk) 20:40, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
