- ... that the sculpture Chicago Rising from the Lake was meant to show Chicago's rebirth after the Great Chicago Fire but it went missing twice and was eventually found by a Chicago firefighter? Source: Hand carved flames represent the Great Chicago Fire....It was lost twice - The bronze sculpture was lost until a Chicago firefighter found it laying in a makeshift dump in 1997 and Nobody is sure how the sculpture got to the dump
