Capitalize Rat and Hole in the name

edit

I can't figure out how to change the name myself, but I think "Rat" and "Hole" should be capitalized so that the article title reads as "Chicago Rat Hole". Kevron17 (talk) 21:43, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

While the original tweet capitalizes all three words in the name, it seems like most sources don't capitalize the "rat hole". Since there's no real consensus, I think we should stick to the WP:LOWERCASE. BanjoZebra (talk) 21:53, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think it should be capitals, because all other tourist attractions are capitalized. great wall of china

Filling in of the rat hole

edit

It appears some vandal has filled in the rat hole.

How can we get this onto Wikipedia:Recent deaths BanjoZebra (talk) 19:01, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

The Rat Hole has been uncovered

Promising! Let's wait to incorporate this into the article until a better source emerges. BanjoZebra (talk) 19:51, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. I was there about an hour after that tweet. From various reliable sources it was partially excavated, but is now only 3/4in - 1in deep. In theory any cement that is left won't settle properly and will probably be easily removed once it warms up, if it isn't excavated before then some other way. Piemadd (talk) 20:27, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
albeit it being only partially excavated, does it still need “was”? 2600:100D:B114:9EAA:FC93:DCEC:359B:3408 (talk) 20:34, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
NVM, we are so (pardon my french) fucking back. Updating the article now. https://x.com/TylerLaRiviere/status/1748444338852401650?s=20 Piemadd (talk) 20:44, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rat Hole excavation

edit

At the end of the article this page cites to say that the Rat Hole has been vandalized, it eludes to the fact that there has been/ will be an effort to excavate and restore the Rat Hole. Is that worth adding as an addendum to the statement saying it has been filled? LaneMitchell (talk) 19:59, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to disregard, you folks are fast! LaneMitchell (talk) 20:01, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rat Hole Shrine

edit

I feel like more information should be included on the recent pop cultural impact of the rat hole and the construction of the shrine. ElectricsquidXD (talk) 21:14, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

On this topic, the photo of the Rat Hole Shrine in the article is marked as Public Domain. Is there a source anywhere proving that to be the case? Did the photographer release the photo into the Public Domain? If not, the photo should probably be removed. BanjoZebra (talk) 21:18, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
how would I link a photo I found in a tweet if i had the user's permission? ElectricsquidXD (talk) 21:21, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
because I cited a tweet that included that image ElectricsquidXD (talk) 21:23, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Either the original photographer needs to upload the photo to Commons themselves, or you need to get express written permission from the photographer that states the image's license, and link to that permission in the Commons upload. BanjoZebra (talk) 21:25, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have multiple images of the shrine I am uploading now, we can use one of them. Piemadd (talk) 00:32, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you're talking about the third image in the gallery, that is my own work. I have released it under public domain. See the topic below this one for more (and better) images though. Piemadd (talk) 00:37, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
This was about a different image! Yours is great. BanjoZebra (talk) 01:50, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

My Images of the Hole/Shrine

edit

I have uploaded multiple photos of the hole and shrine in the public domain which can be used in this article. I highly recommend that others upload their work as well. Here is a list:

Did you mean to release those under CC BY-SA or CC0? Both of them would allow the pictures to be used, but CC0 is the actual public domain licence. Unbeatable101 (talk) 01:00, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh I didn't realize that CC BY-SA wasn't public domain. I did intend to do that, but my mistake using the wrong terminology. Piemadd (talk) 01:36, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Piemadd, I have fixed that for you, but if you wish to return to CC BY-SA feel free to do so, as the images are yours and I was the one that changed their license. Thanks for uploading them and also for (intending to) license them under CC0. Regards, RodRabelo7 (talk) 04:24, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Capitalizing

edit

Since "Chicago rat hole" is a name of a location, shouldn't all 3 words have capitalized letters (Chicago Rat Hole)? — IмSтevan talk 14:06, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Even though the original tweet capitalized all three words, the NYT, Chicago Sun-Times, and NBC Chicago do not capitalize the "rat hole" part of the name. We should keep it as is since there's no consensus. BanjoZebra (talk) 16:23, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Significance of estradiol pills and injectable estradiol vial

edit

I’m guessing this is likely something to do with some transfem folks/trans women feeling cheeky, but if there are any online posts or information about the motivation of the folks who put that stuff there, it may make sense to mention that. Right now the estradiol might be very confusing to folks and I feel it would add value to explain why, if we can find any source as to why.

I mean, that stuff’s not cheap! Dvallin (talk) 06:16, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

The pills probably would keep their potency if kept in the plastic, but I dunno about the injectable stuff without refrigeration. And of course taking 'found' medicine is a risky proposition, but I wonder if the sentiment wasn't "oh, you are a pilgrim to the hole? have some skittles". Anyway, the expense probably adds to the votive value. Arlo James Barnes 19:56, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
