Talk:Chief of the General Staff (United Kingdom)

Chief of the General Staff is a very vague title to be housing just British chiefs. Could we possibly merge this with Chief of the Imperial General Staff or create a new Chief of the British General Staff? Mackensen 20:00, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The term is "Chief of the General Staff"; if we're going to have to disambiguate (and there really isn't any reason to pre-emptively do so, IMO - we can wait until someone wants to write about a different country's position), then move this to Chief of the General Staff (UK) and make Chief of the General Staff into a disambigation. If you want, we can move this now and just turn Chief of the General Staff into a redirect for the time being...

I think that would be best. I already created German General Staff some time ago. We could move this to British General Staff, and not have a separate page for the title. Mackensen 23:15, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I'm moving the present article to British General Staff, and turning this into a disambiguation page. Mackensen (talk) 01:42, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Resignation in August 2006? Have we a source for this. If he is retiring then it should say as that as it is the normal course of things - if he has resigned that is unusual and worthy of comment and explanation.Alci12 15:10, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Title not accurately descriptive; suggest move

edit

The current title seems less than accurate: I suggest a move to Chief of the General Staff (United Kingdom), or to Chief of the General Staff (British Army). Alai 15:07, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Montgomery and Slim's dates

edit

Sir Bernard "Monty" Montgomery and Sir William Slim have "31 November 1948" as the date of the end and beginning of their service as Chief of the Imperial General Staff respectively. As it is an impossibility for this to be the case (there being no such date as 31 November), I had hoped to find a more accurate date and amend the article myself, but no such luck. Can anyone else help with finding the correct dates? Backmarker SE (talk) 10:59, 15 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Heathcote gives the date as 1 November 1948: I have amended. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 17:24, 15 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
