My first full article

edit

So after years of using wikipedia I finally looked up something that wasn't here. This is my first article. it's a bit sparse, but i really just created it so it has an entry. I hope someone fleshes it out some more. User:Jeffness

Ship Tags

edit

Added tags for wikiproject:ships. In a sense, it would be more appropriate for the ship to be its own entry, since Chikyu Hakken is the name of a program related to it rather than the ship itself.Khanaris (talk) 00:40, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Year Problems

edit

"According to the IODP, on 27 April 2012, Chikyū drilled to a depth of 7,740 meters (25,400 feet) below sea level, setting a new world record for deep-sea drilling. This record has since been surpassed by the ill-fated Deepwater Horizon mobile offshore drilling unit, operating on the Tiber prospect in the Mississippi Canyon Field, United States Gulf of Mexico, when it achieved a world record depth for a vertical well of 10,062 m (33,011 ft)."

This does not make any sense chronologically. How could this vessel set a record in 2012 that "has since been surpassed" by a rig that infamously sunk in 2010?!? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:48F8:3034:17AF:9D0E:89A5:E0E:BF9B (talk) 06:55, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sea and seabed

edit

The article needs to make a much clearer distinction throughout between sea level and seabed level. Many different holes and drilling projects are discussed in passing, some under the sea, some on land, and with many different kinds of setups, but the figures should make it plain what kind of length was drilled through rock in every single case. In everyday language, "6.000 m under the sea" means under the sea surface, not under the sea floor. In some cases in the present article it's unclear whether the distance figure is from the sea surface or from the sea floor, and this gives the whole thing a muddy and unclear tone. 83.254.154.164 (talk) 23:53, 6 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
