Not moved. There is a clear consensus against the proposed move. bd2412 T 14:53, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan → Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference – This article was moved from Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference to Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan, referring to a 1998 article[1]. However, this article explicitly states "the current English title, the "Chinese Regional Bishops´ Conference," remains unchanged". Furthermore, the official website of the bishops' conference only uses the name 'Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference'. I suggest we move the article back to its correct name. De wafelenbak (talk) 20:03, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose mainland also has bishops' conferences. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:14, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- It is not up to Wikipedia to change the name they give themselves. China Airlines and China Television are also confusing, but that's the way it is. There is only one Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference, so no need to modify the title of the article for that. We could add a hatnote saying "Not to be confused with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of China, set up by the Government of the People's Republic of China", however. Unfortunately, 中国天主教主教团 does not have an article on the English Wikipedia yet (neither does 天主教中国大陆主教团).De wafelenbak (talk) 17:16, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- So someone please write article on Catholic Bishops' Conference of China. As regards Taiwan 天主教會臺灣地區主教團 cannot be just "Chinese" as the Chinese name clearly doesn't say "China" it says Taiwan Regional Conference of the Catholic Church. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:48, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. Chicbyaccident (talk) 22:16, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME. It is worth noting that Agenzia Fides uses the name "Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan" a lot recently, but "Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference" still predominates in secondary sources even after the Chinese WP:NAMECHANGE, and the current title is almost totally unsupported:
Title Google News hits Google Books hits Hits on Fides.org Links Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan 0 1 0 [2][3][4] Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference in Taiwan 1 6 3 [5][6][7] Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference (without "of/in Taiwan") 55 144 10 [8][9][10] Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan 1 5 48 [11][12][13] Taiwan Regional Bishops' Conference 0 4 10 [14][15][[16]
- Even if the mainland organisation were somehow the WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT for this name despite not actually being called by this name in any sources, the appropriate title for this article would use a parenthetical disambiguator (Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference (Taiwan)) — but that's unnecessary here because there's nothing else called the Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference, so any confusion can be handled with hatnotes. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 01:33, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
- Unfortunately WP:CRITERIA trumps COMMONNAME. We don't just follow COMMONNAME with no disambiguation when we know that the result would be a misleading title. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:41, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
- As the source cited by the nominator notes, the organisation explicitly chose not to rename themselves in English, and the majority of WP:RS of a wide variety of political viewpoints are following that usage (with the notable exception of Fides as I mentioned above, but they don't use "Chinese Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan" either). That is not "misleading"; what's actually misleading is presenting a name that is barely used in any sources as if it were official and widely-used. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 10:02, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
