Rock in China
editHi, I'm Azchael of www.rockinchina.com and we have written an extensive history of Chinese rock music using information from across the web and several books surplus interviews. We are interested in collaborating with Wikipedia :).
Rock on!!!

New section
editCan somebody distill this sentence from the opening paragraph down to something more clear. The sentence is at best ambiguous.
- "But the essential nature of rock and roll music is that of attitude and lifestyle, which sees no borders or ethnic identity; therefore, "Chinese rock music" is in simplest terms, Chinese music with modern orchestration (with or without traditional Chinese musical instruments), exemplfied by attitude and lifestyle not compliant to mainstream market and state-approved entertainment."
title
editWhy is this here instead of at Chinese rock? Tuf-Kat 20:39, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
article out of date
editRock is making a comeback in mainland China in the 2000's. This article is out of date and seems to end in 1994.
"Chinese rock" vs. "Chinese Rock (genre)"
editThere's NO way that it should be titled Chinese rock. Nothing is reasonable to call it, even when it's considered a "standard" naming. I created disambiguation page and tried to move it into Chinese Rock (genre). What's wrong with moving into Chinese Rock (genre)"? --Gh87 05:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- What's so bad about keeping it as "Chinese rock"? Why does it need to be moved to "Chinese rock (genre)" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lily1104 (talk • contribs) 12:33, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
"Chinese rock bands" listing should not include "Taiwanese" and "Hong Kong" bands.
editKaiser Kuo
editKaiser Kuo is listed as a solo artist. What work has he done as a solo artist?81.157.63.47 (talk) 12:28, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've removed him from the list as he is known as a member of Tang Chao, not a solo artist. According to http://www.yaogun.com/artist/tangchao/member/kaiserkuo.htm his solo output consists of one track on a Zhang Ju tribute album.217.43.227.121 (talk) 11:24, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Year
editSurely, the Northwest Wind of rock/punk music started much earlier than 1985...it only became well-known in the 1980s, but has existed since the 1970s. Lily1104 (talk) 12:26, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I believe this to be possible, but can you find a source? Poeloq (talk) 13:49, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Embedded List?
editWhy is there an embedded list in the article, more than half of what's in the list being red links? I'm tempted to tag it {{cleanup-laundry}} but instead I took the initiative and removed all the red-link artists from the list, which was immediately reverted back. So why is it so important to list an arbitrary collection of Chinese rock artists with no way of establishing their notability and introduce more clutter to this already cluttered article? --antilivedT | C | G 05:46, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- The bands' names (many of them significant ones) can and should be verified. Many of us work very hard to have the best article on this subject, and leaving out significant band names does not enhance the article for our users. Badagnani (talk) 05:48, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK but aren't most of the "significant" ones already mentioned in the article? You don't see Rock (music) listing all the rock bands ever known to man. Instead it works the "significant" ones into the prose, links from the prose, instead of having an ugly embedded list at the bottom. --antilivedT | C | G 10:46, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the list could be split into a new article, like List of math rock bands. Badagnani (talk) 16:43, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think, most people would like to keep the information on the bands, as they have no time editing the bands itself. --Azchael (talk) 00:24, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Problem with definition or article itself
editSo what exactly is Chinese rock? From the history section, it would appear to only refer to rock in mainland China in the Mandarin language, but then the definition at the lead mentions other Chinese communities outside of mainland China. Rock music existed outside mainland China in various Chinese communities before the 1980s, so either the history is wrong, or the definition is wrong. Hzh (talk) 10:29, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

The problem with this article
editThe problem with this article, is that it reads as if it has been translated out of (what I presume was originally) Chinese and into English. Or rather, into English words, because I can recognise the individual words OK, but not the intended meaning. Which is what makes any attempt at improvement difficult.
