Frankie Kknuckles
editIs it fair to say Chip E took Frankie Knuckles under his wing? Frankie Knuckles was an estblished DJ when Chip E was still just working at the Importes Etc. record store. I'd say more likely, Frankie gave Chip (an up and coming producer) a break by letting him co-produce something.

DJ and Music Producer are not synonymous, and were more distinguished from each other prior to House Music.
Chip E had been producing music from 1984, and was established as a recording artist, producer and mixer.
Chip E produced Frankie Knuckles' first song in 1987, whereas in this scenario Chip E is clearly senior in experience.

it's a minor point but although Frankies "first" song was released on vinyl in '87, he had been producing tracks with Jamie Principal for a few years at that point (e.g. Your Love, Baby Wants to Ride) and they were HUGE hits in the clubs (played from reel to reel or cassette) and thus Frankie was definitely known as more than just a DJ by 1987. I see your point but truly, Frankie was the bigger name in music in 1987 in Chicago. I don't think anyone at the time thought he was being mentored by Chip E. I say this with the utmost respect and gratitude for what Chip brought to the scene. He was no doubt a pioneer and remains a legend I just question that he was Frankie's "senior". Nuff said from me on this.Freesound (talk) 22:24, 23 June 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Freesound (talk • contribs) 22:21, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
